Use carts or janitor caddys?

I'm am currently in the market for a cargo trailer for all my gear. I was trying to come up with a more efficient way to organizing my gear.



I came across the idea of some sort of janitor cart. It would be perfect, maybe have one for the interior protucts, tools, towels, and one for the exterior chemicals, towels, buffers.

I was wondering if any of the pros utilize anything like this.



I searched to see if anyother autopians were using (enclosed) cargo trailers but i couldn't find any. Someone needs to post their setup!

i am in the market for getting an enclosed trailer. it would help with advertising and security purposes. i will feel much more comfortable leaving trailer outside if neccessary. also, since i drive a pickup truck, it gives me a place to store towels and such
 
Although it is not shown in action, this works very well for me.

Be advised that it requires much more space/room than you would imagine...

Where do you live? There is a trailer sales place on the Pennyrile Parkway outside of Terra Haute Indiana. There are several around here in the Nashville area. I would just get an Auto Trader for Trucks. They have trailers, heavy equipment, and whatnot in it. That might be the cheapest route if you can find a decent used one. I used my Audi TT when I was mobile. I had alot of rubbermaid totes to hold everything and the shop vac was in the passenger's seat. I cant honestly say I was 100% mobile, because I used the customer's electric and water. I think it would be a toss-up for me between a trailer and a topper for my truck. I have a 3500 Dodge Dually now so I could fit everything in the bed of the truck. They have some decent looking work toppers out there that have built in shelving and side opening doors. To give you an idea heres a link: http://www.4are.com/product/dcu/ I think you can order it painted to match. You can also pick and chose the door and shelving options. Plenty of space on it to put company logos, and as a bonus you dont have to worry about space to park it. You could then deduct all your vehicle mileage since it would be your work truck, and that trip to Target would be an advertising trip....ha-ha! Anyways, As far as the cart is concerned there are plenty out there to chose from as well. Snap-on and Mac tools have some nice metal ones. There are some rubbermaid carts that Grainger sells that look nice too.
 
Only thing that I can think of is a light weight janitorial Utility Cart that you can get at a janitorial supplies center. But get one with brakes if you live in a mountain area!

So you get one of those things you have to load it up & unload every time because being on the road things are going to fall out of it. Also you have to secure it in the trailer all this takes time.

Normally you don’t need to pack that much supplies close to the car you are working on, all you need maybe is a bucket caring case. The secret is to planning ahead, knowing what you need.



I have a 12x6 2003 Interstate enclosed trailer that has two doors in the back and a utility box in front I just drive close to my work area and pack a work bucket /w the things I need next to the car. Inside the trailer I have a Pressure washer /w tires, large vacuum, exacter, 50’ of hose, 6’ ladder, two 50’ elec exention wire one is thick gage and a cooler to store food & beer



Having an enclosed trailer is the way to go park it and lock it up, stays dry & secure and you can store more stuff but an open utility trailer you can work faster just going to it and getting what you need. On an enclosed trailer you have to go inside. If you are going to buy a trailer buy a 6’ wide one, a 8’ wide trailer doesn’t maneuver on the city roads that great, also buy a trailer hitch for your car/truck work much better. And a large transmission cooler if you have an automatic.

i only have a colorado, so loading everything in it would be tight. then trying to use it as a personal vehicle, i wouldn't want to be driving around with everything. i live in vegas and have found a place with decent prices, but i am still trying to figure out what size to get. i was thinking 5x8 with barn doors in back and hopefully finding one with a side access door. i think that would give me enough room for everything. but then i am thinking of a 5x10 incase i want to get into generic pressure washing and need room for a heater without purchasing a new trailer.
 
I dont know what the payload rating is on a colorado, can it handle the trailer plus everything you have tossed in it? Are you taking along your own water? Water is what, 6.5 lbs a gallon? Or is that gas? The side access door is definately a plus. It makes quick trips in and out of the trailer nice. I had a 32 foot enclosed that I pulled bikes in and the side doors were a real lifesaver when you have the rear loaded down and needed something off the front of the trailer. You can also get flourescent lights that run off 12 volt that also makes digging around alot nicer in low light and no light conditions. I think you can get them from american van or any site that sells work van shelving and what not.
 
i kno im not a pro, but i was thinking about this.. a mechanics cart would be perfect.. i had a really nice Mac one, with a drawer and a flip up top, too bad i sold it, i regret it now.... if i were u i would save the extra $50 and get a Mac, or if u dont need a drawer and flip up top, Blue-Point has a good one.

EDIT: both carts i mentioned look almost identical to the black one pictured above
