Urine as a solvent?

Hmm....I actually read once before that in some countries, they use urine to cure leather boots. The urine, if left to stand long enough turns into ammonia. Useful, maybe, but not sanitary. Here is an excerp from an article I read:

"In the olden times, people used different techniques in producing leather. After scraping of the flesh from the animal by using a bone, stone scraper or a metal knife, they would put a kind of chemical or salt on the skin in order to process it. Some even used urine back then. The tanners also collected urine from toilets in public areas as well as from certain homes. After collecting the urine, they would let it stand for about a week until the urine turns into ammonia, which they would put onto the skin so as to cure it. These processes are the ones used by tanners before just to create leather."

I also watched man v. wild the one day. He was in a desert and made purified drinking water from urine. He got two clear water bottles and urinated in one. He taped them together and buried the empty one under sand and left the urinated one in the sun. It produced condensation into the buried one creating purified water. They did a test on it, and it was purer than tap water.

Yup, we pi$$ed in our squad leader's boots in AIT... we were just trying to help him :D. Ammonia also helps with jellyfish stings... unless of course it's a huge Box Jellyfish... then yer fooked...

I've used Urine AIO, and Urine sealant and my car has beaded for 4 years solid. The stuff won't come off.

The new Optimum Opti-Coating has nothing on the Urine sealant.

:D

and so the thread that just won't die continues.......

+1, it's back :werd:

Seriously, there's taking the eco-thing seriously and taking it wayyyyy too far. I run an eco-friendly shop, so I use as much eco-friendly supplies and material as I can, as long as it performs as well as the standard version. But, I draw the line where it becomes rediculous, like this. No thanks, I won't be detailing client's cars with urine.

Time to get that olfactory checked.

my nose works just fine...onr v1 smells like pinesol to me that post was a joke...besides everyone knows ONR would be green if it did indeed contain urine

Peter La Fleur: [after Patches hits Justin in the face with a wrench] Yeah, uh, Patches... are you sure that this is completely necessary?

Patches O'Houlihan: Necessary? Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine?

Peter La Fleur: Probably not.

Patches O'Houlihan: No, but I do it anyway because it's sterile and I like the taste.

Peter La Fleur: ...Okay.

Jeez, you guys are just now catching on to the whole bodily fluids trick? After the first go of the day, I find that the urine is more concentrated. Just dunk the spray bottle in the bowl, this often leads to exactly a 4:1 ratio. It's a great APC and restores that natural shine when dressing the dash. I often double it as a tire dressing also, but apply it direct and undiluted, usually after lunch.

Oh, and down get me started on natural polishes.
