Urgent SG help needed!

Ok - here's my situation. I prepped the vehicle with clay and AIO and now I am applying SG with a MF pad sprayed FD on it first. I am using a small amount of Sg and applying in a back and forth method. I did half the hood and immediatelt wiped with a MF towel.

When I hang the halogen light above the hood and look close I can see streaks of SG. What can I do to finish the vehicle without the streaks? Do I apply a lot of pressure when wiping off?

Thanks

Since your in FL, how is the humidity? If you have time, wait till tonight or tomorrow morning and see if the streaks are still there, certain times it will just evaporate like on my 850 the next day. Or you can use a QD like Sonus or what ever you have and wipe it. I could be wrong but FD might have silicone in it, and they might not interact well, I use #34 FI myself. :nixweiss

Do I just spray a MF with Final Detail and wipe off the SG or wipe of with a dry MF and then a FI MF?

Does that make sense?

OK - I used the FI and the streaks are gone. Thanks! One more question, how long to I wait after applying the SG to wipe with FI MF? The FI won't affect the SG?

You shouldn't need to use a damp towel to wipe the SG off using the wipe on/wipe off technique. That is whole purpose of wipe on/off in the first place. Apply your SG with a slightly damp applicator in a front to back motion. Do one section at a time. After applying the SG immediately wipe off with a dry towel. It should come off with no problem and be streak free. I think the problem is the final detail you are using. Chuck it in the garbage. I've heard too many conflicting things about that QD to take it seriously.

I concur with what's been said above if you are using the wipe on/wipe off technique. But if you are like me, and still use the traditional method, I suggest applying the coats as thin as you can, working it a bit with the applicator so that you don't see streaks when you finish application, and then letting it sit for an hour or so before wiping off. I have tried the wipe on/wipe off method, and this other method, and they both work streak free for me.

Bill - I first tried the Wipe on /Wipe off method (this is my first detail) and I saw streaks. Maybe I am applying to much - the hood looks like there is grease on it when you get up close ( I mean I can see where I applied it very easily - does that mean it is too much? Any how, what is your objections to the wet /dry towel method? it seem to work good for me this time at least.

Thanks for all the input. I will try the wipe on /wipe off method on coat number 2.

Peace,

Bill,

I think you may be right about the FD being an issue in conjunction with the SG, but as a general QD, Final Detail seems to work pretty well (IMO anyway, and especially for the price). Have you heard of others having problems with it? The only problem I've noticed is that it's kind of a pain to use in low temperatures (leaves some streaking/residue), but other than that, it does the job, and leaves a nice gloss. I definitely wouldn't want it as my only QD, but I'm glad I bought it.

And not to get too far off topic, I have some SG on the way from the Autopia Store (my first try with it), and I look forward to giving the wipe-on/wipe-off method a go. I've avoided SG for a while because ease-of-use is an issue with me (I hate products that stain trim, are diffictult to buff, etc.) but the positive reviews of wipe-on/wipe-off (new acronym? WO-WO? :D) prompted me to go ahead and pick up a bottle.

TortoiseAWD - one of the (many) reason I really like Klasse Sealant Glaze (and AIO) is precisely because of the fact that the products do not stain the trim - as opposed to other wax products I have used. Yes I used to be a Gold Class user, but I have seen the light. Used to spend all kinds of time just cleaning off the white wax residue from the black trim - no more !!!

I think you will be pleased.

I made a typo - I actually used FI not FD. Don't really know if that makes a difference. I just have to say I was more comfortable withe TT method. By the way, the SG looks insane - I will definietly post some pics when I complete the detail (its been an all week thing).

Blue,

You probably are applying too much product. You should be using no more than 1oz of SG per coat on an average size vehicle (ex. BMW 3 Series).

I'm not a big wet/dry towel fan myself. See the thread I started in the Detailing forum called "Klasse SG Wipe On, Wipe Off, Official Application Instructions". It should be on the second page of the forum. Read thru all of my posts, especially the big one on the second page of the thread. It basically outlines how I got where I am with SG.

I've just read quite a bit of conflicting things about FD. 'It's great', 'it's not great', 'it streaks', 'it goes on and off perfectly'. Sometimes I think half the people are using a totally different product than the other half. Makes me wonder how good FD really is?

As for an acroynym for Wipe On, Wipe Off, why not use 'WOO'. As in 'Wipe On Off'. Easier than WO-WO I think. Just my $0.02 :D .

I'm a huge Klasse Fan.

I've been applying it to my 'new' 92 Miata for about a week now. Spectacular results after the third coat.

I respect what Bill North has to say about the Klasse products.

But, there is an established school of thought that says "the longer you wait, the easier it is to remove".

I actually applied a thin coat on Saturday, and removed it Monday morning. Still needed some QD, but it came right off.

Just my .02

That's cool man! I respect that. But just give WOO a shot. You may find it easier since you can buff it off right away instead of having to wait 2 days.
