UPP questions

Hi Tailwind,

Two wrongs to not make a right. I was wrong in personally assaulting you after you personalized my comments. Autopia is a global community with a lot of detailing knowledge being exchanged. Sometimes posts like mind sets off a bell in someone head that might help alleviate a detailing problem or improve their work.

When I first used Zaino, just prior to joining Autopia, I had the same problems as you (In first post I stated I understood your peril). Self induced paint flaws is not unique to you and even the best of us, I am not including myself in that group, will produce a flaw or two during the cleaning stage. :(

As I spent more and more time here I picked up on things that caused problems with products like Zaino. Members here kept stressing to look at "my" routine. Not the LSP product. Sal even stated the same thing. Well being stubborn and could not see why my routine had flaws, off went the Z to the "no longer used" cabinet. As time passed and my prep skills increased the bell went off. They (Autopia members and Sal) were correct and I did have flaws in my routine. Re-tried Zaino and Wow what a difference. This re-vamp of my routine not only improved my results with Zaino but with every LSP I use and personally I have found no LSP that does not have its positives with the proper surface prep.

One thing that you will notice here at Autopia is that we are very open to news ideas, trying to pass on detailing solutions and pointing out possible flaws in one's routine. Not intended to be criticism but to be helpful.

Take the challenge and make that black f-body flawless within reason and situational conditions. :xyxthumbs

That's the thing. I have given the product several chances and used it in many different situations. It just doesn't tickle me the right way. Even on a freshly polished surface I still don't like the appearance of it, and given the price of Z2 + ZFX + Z6, I'd much rather just use other things that I like more. I understand your trying to convince me, but everyone's got a different opinion and different tastes. If I happen to disagree with someone and they don't like the products I use, it's fine by me. I know if they're saying they don't like them there's a reason, and preaching to them about the positives of it will do nothing other than irritate them.

It's the same with NXT. I've had people preach to me the positives to it, but at the end of the day, I just don't like it.

By the way, my car is nearly flawless to an outside eye. I could fix the few defects it has with a bit of spot sanding and a rotary, but once again, I've come to the point where I'm willing to live with a few small things here and there for the sake of the clearcoat (and my own sanity.)

So I'm only 21 and I've only been registered on here for a few months. What does that matter or prove? That I can't take part in a conversation or defend myself? No doubt that with age comes experience, but it is not the determining factor. Both of those things mean nothing. In all honesty, that comment annoyed me far more than the conversation at hand.

Has anyone topped UPP over klasse or wolfgang. At present I have bodyseal, 4 coats of klasse and four of wolfgang and want to apply the 10th and final coat of sealant and want the paint a bit slicker. It's probably an 8.5 on the autopian scale for slickness but I want it to be so slick bugs slide off when I wipe an MF over the front bumper.

If you just don't like the results of Z then that's cool - I would say give UPP a try or try EX or EX-P from Poorboy (EX will probably give you better results on a darker car than EX-P).

I have a dark grey metallic and Vanilla Moose and Ex is an awesome combo!

Likewise with AIO and UPP x 3

I plan on trying UPP, Wolfgang, EX, and a few others in due time, but I've got a lot of other stuff (Blackfire, FMJ, S100, and #16 are all still pretty much full on top of everything else I've got) to use up on my car and a few others before I buy anything else.

If anyone has access to a centrifuge please try this little analysis. Warning: The NXT and EX-P must spin for at least 15 minutes (@3400 rpm) to get any separation. PITA.

A bit of information is missing here; you can't calculate g-force with only RPMs and without spin diameter.

What kind of centrifuge are you using? the standard tabletops that hold twelve 1ml eppendorfs, or an ultracentrifuge? What kind of rotor?

No need for that info or even a centrifuge. This crude experiment can be done with just the use of gravity and a lot of time.

The equipment I used was a Beckman Coulter Spinchron 15R with a max rpm of 4800. Blood samples are spun down at 3400 and I did not want to disrupt normal lab activities by changing rate. :D

FMJ rocks! - I have it on my roomate's black ford ranger and it looks amazing two month later!

groebuck,

Could you compare FMJ to UPP in appearance and slickness on scale 1:10.

Regards,
