UPP - How Many Coats for Canadian Winter?

Just put 1st coat of UPP on today... tried it side by side on some test spots with Klasse SG and man, was that SG hard to remove (even though it was thin). I couldn't believe how UPP just seem to come off all in one quick swipe!

Now the looming question, how many coats are good for a harsh Canadian winter? Looking to get a good 4-5 months out of it if possible.

While I would have preferred KSG for durability... being a first time sealant user, I'll wait til I can get a good technique down.

Also 4* UGE isn't available from any of the Canadian shops... is the Sonus Acrylic Spritz okay to use on top of the UPP, or is it limited to use with KSG?
 
I didn't notice any difference after 3 coats but I was going for looks more then durability. I'm not sure how long it would have lasted because I like to try out different productus every few months. UPP is probably my favorite lsp though.
 
I would do 2-3 while you can. If you get a day or two above freezing during the winter, do a good wash and then apply another layer of UPP. That'll ensure you can get through the winter. For me, I try to apply my LSP whenever I have time and the weather is right during the winter. And, you can never apply too many layers!

As for the QD, use it and see how you like it. I doubt you'd have any problems but test it out and see hat you think.

And for the SG, a little really really goes a long way. There were spots where I saw streaks after WOWO method, shot it with some SG and that took care of it. The next day I did another layer and left it on overnight and there was 0 problems removing it. Good luck.
 
I've had 3 or 4 layers of UPP on and it was very durable. I've tried with both UPC and AIO and I liked it better with AIO.

I've always used the 4* UGE with the UPP and am impressed with it also.

With that being said, since you have harsh winters it might be worth your while to give SG a try. A quick story...a number of weeks ago I smeared an exceptionally thin, and I mean very exceptionally thin, layer of SG on the top of my wife's Liberty and didn't wipe it off. Yesterday when I was washing it I noticed how well the water was repealling of the top and it had a better shine than any other topping I've used. I was doubly amazed expecially considering that I didn't even try to wipe it off and it still looked sooo great. The moral of the story, to me, is that the next time I redo any of my autos I'm going to use SG and apply it just like I did on the roof of my wifes Liberty.
 
i wouldnt know anythign on durabilty of upp but it works in nice and gives good looks. but like as u said u're looking for a good sealant with good durabilties, give the klasse sg u have a shot again. this time dont worry SO MUCH on applying it thin and just use a damp mf towel to remove. just wet it with water and wring out.then after use ds to remove any water streaks. ive done this and have had NO bad effects dong this, assuming its because klasse sg is an acrylic and not a polymer that needs water-free enviroments to bond.

I would suggest investing in some Collinite Insulator Wax, It's about 15-17 bucks (Canadian) and durability and gloss is excellent. You wouldn't be disappointed with it. I just did my car today....clay, ColorX and spitshined the IW. Plan on at least 2 more coats, although 2 coats brought me through last winter easily. Just my 2 cents.

That is so funny,....I just put my first coat on last night and I am a first time user as well. I found keeping the application thin is key (others have told me this too) otherwise it starts to get a littler harder to wipe off later. Did you buy your UPP in Canada????? If so, where did you get it? I ordered all my 4* stuff from the states including the UGE,.....gonna try that tonight before the second coat of UPP goes on. I have heard that a few coats (3+) can last 4 to 6 months, but I cant say from personal experience obviously.

Do you really have to wait 24hrs between coats? Would waiting like 12hrs be fine,.....anyone know?
 
Noticed a problem now, but maybe not a big deal. So I washed, clayed using wash water, washed again, brought the car into the garage and used paint cleaner and then UPP. With one coat of UPP on now I noticed some lines. Hard to describe,....it looks like some areas are clean while others have dust,....like not as clear and nice as some other parts. I dunno what this would be. Looking at the paint in the garage after with bright flourecent lights I can see my paint needs some scratches and whatever removed, but that can wait until the spring I guess.

Question: Would these lines/different looking areas be from claying? I have never clayed before, so I am thinking maybe I missed areas or didnt have enough lubricant and clay stuff got on the car. Can I leave the car how it is and just put more layers of UPP on the car,.......or could these diff looking areas be bad/cause damage. I kind of DONT remove everything from the car and have to do everything over again.

Any thoughts????

You could always follow rabbi's ways and put like 25 coats on, he said it was hard to keep dirt on the finish, I believe him.

After talking with Patrick I believe the problem was that my claying job was not the greatest. I did use paint cleaner after, but I think its just because I missed areas while claying. I think I just missed spots as I went across the paint etc. Now they are sealed in,......so I can fix that in the spring. YES, LOTS OF COATS OF UPP hahaha.
