UPP help

Hey guys, I have been using platinum ultimate paint protection, for about a year now on and off, and no matter what, I just cannot get this stuff to buff off cleanly without a fight. It always smears and hazes. Most of it usually comes off, but if you look closely, there is always a cloudy haze left. Here's my regimen tell me if I am doing something wrong. Wash, UPC, then apply UPP with an orbital buffer, wait about 20-30 minutes, then remove with buffer, terry bonnets , and spend the next 45 minutes trying to remove the haze before I have an unsatisfied customer. I am not exactly new at this, I do about 75 cars a year, and I never have any problems with any other waxes. I would like to keep using this because when it's finally done it looks much better and lasts longer than waxes, but if I can't get this stuff off easier, than I am going to look for something else. So my question is, am I doing something wrong, or does anybody else have this same problem with this product? Are there better polymer sealants, like meguires that I should try? Thanks guys

Heff:

Thin, really thin application. Let it dry for 45 minutes to an hour. Never have a smearing or streaking problem doing it that way. One difference, I use Klasse AIO as my cleaner. I don't think that should make any difference, but who knows.

I happen to be a big fan of UPP, but I'm not sure the drying time makes it a good product for a professional detailer. That hour seems like a long time for a pro to wait. I guess you could do the interior and windows so the time isn't totally wasted. I just take care of my own vehicles so I just take an hour break. Then it wipes right off with a MF towel.

Like Charles said, make sure you put it on reeeeeeally thin! I use a PC with a grey foam finishing pad and UPP. After waiting 45 minutes, it buffs off easier than any other sealant I have used (except for maybe Klasse AIO). Zaino and Blackfire are much harder to remove. UPP has been reformulated within the past year, I think. I have the newer formula so maybe it's easier to remove. I always use MF cloths to remove sealants, and then hit it with a little QD to clean everything off.

Here's my general rule for sealants:

If you're wondering if you're using too much, then: YES, you are using too much!

If you think you aren't using enough, then you're probably using just the right amount.

This is why I use EX. I've never had any problem removing it to a clear surface immediately after application and in the sun!, and since it contains carnuba I feel no need to top it.....of course I dont' think it can be topped. And...I don't have to be concerned about how thick or thin I put it on. NO hassels!

if it is humid you will need to wait a little longer for the UPP. Also if you have a little hazing following up with a QD, should be gone with no trouble. Also I understand that there are two versions on UPP, the first and the second (newest), I have the newest version.

Good point!

Are you using one terry bonnet to buff out the whole car? Could it be the bonnet is loading up?

Natty

No I use a couple of bonnets to remove it, I never let them load up. I think I will try letting it set and haze for longer though maybe like 45 minutes. I think that will help, It has to dry eventually! Thanks for the input guys

Are these cotton terry bonnets or MF terry bonnets? If they are cotton, then I don't think any amount of waiting will help. I've tried buffing PUPP with cotton before and it pretty much just "moved" the product around.

Heff, after your initial removal, and before client picks it up, park it in the sun for 5-10 minutes, just long enough to warm the paint and thin the oils......Hit with MF, by hand, and Im 99.9% certain you will remove any residing haze........I have gotten use to using that technique with every car and product I use.........

Accumulator: I have used both BF2 and UPP within the last couple of months, and I can say that the UPP was a LOT easier to remove than the BF.

With the BF2, I had to wipe several times with a MF, then go over it with QD, and it still didn't all come off until the next wash.

I have applied UPP over BF2 on my truck, and have also used UPP over AIO on a pewter Silverado and a white minivan. In all cases, UPP was very easy to remove with a MF. Next it AIO and BF1, UPP is the easiest sealant I have ever worked with (I've used AIO/SG, Z2/Z5, BF1/BF2, UPP, and Autoint's OEM One-Step). Maybe Heff is having trouble because he's using cotton bonnets:nixweiss I don't know...

Yes guys, I am using cotton terry bonnets and towels,to apply and remove the UPP. I wasn't aware that microfiber would make a difference in product removal, don't really understand why it would but i'll give it a try,

Thanks for the encouraging words (sigh of relief).

Heff- I've found (GOOD) MF's to be a real "miracle product", especially for product removal. That might make all the difference.
