New member
Being new to the board, I am totaly lost trying to figure out some of these abreveations. For example, AIO? How about SG? I would love to get a list together for us rookie. What is a good paint cleaner product to use? What is the best way to use a clay bar. I have seen a couple of post here on it and was wondering what is the best way of doing it. One of my cars needs some serious help. Is it easiest to us a bucket of water w/Dawn to get rid of the old wax build up and then clay?



I have been reading a lot on the Zaino/Klasse and am thoroughly confused. I was told it was best to use a good wax product w/Carnuba. Is that old news and out the window.

Welcome to the Forum! I understand how you feel because I felt pretty overwhelmed when I first found this place. What I did when I first came here was to spend a good amount of time reading through the old threads, including the ones in the detailing archives. Also, click the "Details, Details, Details" link at the Autopia Carport page for some excellent general info on detailing your car.

AIO = Klasse All-In-One
SG = Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze

As for the best paint cleaner, it all depends on how much 'cleaning' your car needs. Some of ones that are good for paints in relatively good condition include AIO, PPCL (Pinnacle Paintwork Cleaning Lotion), P21S Paintwork cleansing Lotion and Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish.

The next level up in aggresiveness would be the SMR's (swirl mark removers) by 3M or Meguiar's.

The next level after that would be something like 3M's Finesse-It II Finishing Material (don't know what the Meguiar's equivalent is).

Cleaning with Clay

Using Dawn as your car wash soap is one way to remove old wax from your car. Also, paint cleansers will remove old wax. There is one other popular method on this forum which is to use Autoint.com's ABC system. Just do a search for "ABC" and you'll find a bunch of info. This system is good for removing all waxes, sealants as well as light surface contamination from your car.

A wax product with carnauba is still great for your car. It's just that most people here feel that Synthetic Polymers/Acrylics like Klasse, Zaino & Blackfire provide a higher level of protection that lasts much longer. But still, a carnauba wax provides a great look to your car and so some people use both on their cars.

The major factor with waxes is durability, most waxes just don't last very long. Many of the synthetic sealants provide just as good of a look, if not better, and are much more durable than a wax. Synthetic sealants on average last around 6 months. Being from Cincinnati myself I can tell you that waxes simply will not last through a saltfest know as a Cincinnati winter. There are a few good synthetic sealants, read the archives and do your homework and pick the one you feel the most comfortable with.

Once you learn everything most of us do here your car will look better than you ever dreamed of. :up

Thanks for the responses, looks like I am back in school again. Time to get studying and laying out my attack plan. Once last question, my cars run the color spectrum. One is silver, one bright red, and one that is a deep metallic blue. Are different products needed for the color variation or does it not matter because of the clearcoat.

Some people like Zaino for silver or light metallic colors because it doesn't darken or tint your paint. And some people like Klasse for darker colors because of its purported deepening or darkening effect. For me personally, I like Klasse on black. For silver and other light metallics I like Zaino because of its high gloss the way it accentuates the metallic particles.
 
I still prefer Klasse on most car colors, especially dark colors. However, for white or silver, I might prefer Zaino a bit more. Do some reading on Blackfire. This new product line from CMA seems to be even more interesting (better?) than Klasse or Zaino. Laters

Johnny boy? That is only one player....UK had 5 players that went to the NBA....lol... John Wall was the No#1 draft pick....and what school did you graduate from?

University of Michigan ;)

You should really do your research before talking junk wendell. John Calipari sent a half dozen players a year to the NBA via University of Memphis. Ever heard of Derrick Rose? He went first round also :rolleyes:

I admit, your Wildcats have a much stronger program then the Tigers will ever have. Besides that, what else does Kentucky have to offer other then a Bucket of Fried Chicken, Obesity, Rotten Teeth, Body Odor and Corncob Pipes :confused:

Sorry if you have taken this way too serious, you were the one that made the first comment....just to let you know about doing research.....research this....UK is the first program to send 5 players from the same team to the NBA....Every college has sent a player to the NBA....duh...but none have sent 5 in the same year....research it. As for the other rude and offensive remarks...I am not even going there....you showed your true colors by judging and stereotyping people....hope you make some friends along the way in life.
