Understanding MF's

Your product looks quite interesting (thanks for the link, BlkZ28). Especially since it isn't a polyester product. I looked through that Lincoln forum, and everyone seemed quite pleased. However, the price for one towel is a bit on the high side. Any chance of extending whatever the "LOD member" discount is to us autopians?

is it safe to leave on the Black Fire All Finish Paint Protection on the car for 24hrs before buffing off with microfiber ? I'm asking because i have time to apply, but no time to buff off until the next day.

Any harm done/disadvantages or any advantages?

thanks

The LOD special is simply a free XS towel with each order. I am working on setting up a different structure with an actual % discount. As soon as I have it ready this will be extended to Autopians also. Before that, however, I may have a sale before Christmas so keep an look out on my site or register your email on the site and I'll send an announcement.

DFs web site confirms my fears. That polyester WILL scratch your finish MF or not. Thanks DF.

I just finished my car. I did a SMR and coat of Z1, Z2. Had recently done a total detail, Clay, Perfect it III, SMR , and Z1, Z2. Then my dealer thought he would do me a favor, God rest his soul. During a minor repair they washed it. OH SH**! They swirled the He** out of it. I had to kill him.

Anyway I thought I'd share my impressions of the 2 different MF's I used.

1. The microfibertech, elite:

I'm not sure if I would use this to remove wax or polish. I didn't today because I was afraid it would scratch.

It absolutely attracks dust like a magnet! I used it like a shammy to remove the dust from SMR. I draged it accross the surface. It worked wonderfully! I also used it to remove residue from perfect it III. (I had two scratches I wanted to get out,) it worked well for this. I was to leary to apply pressure so I didn't use it to remove SMR or Z1. It cleaned windows well.

2. Trend active;

Way softer than the MFtech. I used it to remove th SMR residue.

I also did a Z6 application with this MF. It worked wonderfully for this purpose, picking up anything left by the cotton towel. It also was a great duster. The difference was that even with pressure I didn't mar the paint. This MF, as I described earlier, is a very smooth flat surface stlye. I guess it's like suede but with no nap or terry surface, It's perfectly smooth and flat. Incredibly soft, with no binding on the edges. It resembles a lense cloth in texture. Very expensive too! $17.00 a peice!

Here is the website and contact person. if anyones interested.

I can't find the exact Mf I purchased on this site but the facial Mf's look identical.

I am waiting for some more info form Lorna (ABOVE EMAIL ADDRESS). As soon as I get it I'll share it with ya'll.

Cheers

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Please do not take this as a flame, but a cheap cotton towel, ill-prep surface (not totally clean), and/ or poor technique ( excessive pressure) will scratch your finish. A cheap MF ( does not apply to MicrofiberTech or Pakshak) be it polyester blend or any other source of microfied material will result in surface marring. The reason we discuss and test different product lines and post our results are in order to nullify or justify myths, discuss quality and value of car care products.

I have the suede-like MF towel that I use for interior detailing but the lack of nap scares me from using on my exterior. I have used Zaino, Blackfire and P21S lately along with several QD products. Several applications and buffings with the MicrofiberTech( both the Elite and Ultra), Pakshak and even Nicsand MF's have caused NO noticable surface marring on a highly difficult color - black. I will be testing the DF towel shortly. Unless your paint is vastly different from most here at Autopia or you are detailing an unclean finish I can not visualize either MicrofiberTech or Pakshak MF's harming your finish.

With that said, please follow your feelings and use what works best for you.:xyxthumbs :wavey

Blk,

My towels are high quality cotton and Mf's. My surface was squeaky clean. However all that said, Sunday morning in the sun I saw streaks and some minor swirls. So I think you are correct, it's my technique.

This is what they call the school of hard knocks. I'll get it right yet! With the help from all of you.

Thanks;

Bruce
