I always like to know what I am dealing with or working on whenever i do something so I figured i would post this question to get a better knowledge of automotive paints. Can anyone explain in detail all they know about automotive paints: Different Types (Past & Present), differences between Car Manufacturers, etc... Not only do i think it helps the person a great deal to know what they are working on before that tackle a job but it also puts the customers at ease more when you know what you are talking about. We can even expand this to include Motorcycle Paints, Touchup paints, and even types of thinners that are safe to use on the different kind of paints. Thanks for all the help!

On last week's Dream Car Garage on Speed Channel, Peter talked about older single stage laquer and enamel from the 60's and 70's and how it differed from maker to maker. He also talked about how to repaint and maintain these finishes. Also mentioned are metallic paints and how they worked... no half baked theories here, just facts from a master restoration expert.
