Undercarriage cleaning

Anyone have any secrets for cleaning under thier vehicles? Here's what I usually do. Clean with Purple Power and a brush. Then I use tire foam on it underneath and in the fenderwells. Just wondering if anyone else with a truck that sits up higher has any suggestions. The way I do it winds up looking great, just looking for new things to try. Thanks!! :cool
 
I just substitute the tire foam for Meguiars Engine Kote and since it is now discontinued, a floor shine like Mop n Glo. Lasts longer and attracts less dust than tire foam.
 
I clean off any heavy dirt with purple power and a soft brush and then use Poorboys Bold and Brite in my fenderwells as well as under the car.
 
I put the car up on ramps to do a good cleaning of the undercarriage. I have a 3 gallon pump sprayer that I usually fill with a 2:1 mix of Simple Green or Mean Green. Spray on the cleaner, brush really dirty areas with a large paintbrush, then hose off with a strong stream of water.
 
I'm just going to wait until the faithful day I get one of those Snap-On scissor lifts. One time I used those Rhino ramps my car fell off one and punctured it :eek I'm sure glad the ramps weren't metal :eek :eek
 
I don't really have a need to use a ramp. I just work from front to back and lay down a towel. Then I can get up under my truck pretty well. I doubt that would work with most cars. On a different note, I hate it when people don't clean out their frnderwells. Isn't that just tacky???
 
It will work ok for cars, just a lot of stretching and the need for brushes with exteneded hadnles or lots of things duct taped together for extra reach :o I lay on an egg crate style bed pad, at least I'm not totally aching when I'm done ;)

I just did this for car show prep for my Stang. I put it up on a post lift and took the wheels off it. For a cleaner I used Car Brite Blue Max and scrubed it with a wheel brush and dawn. Then I sprayed it down with Castle NV Vinyl, which is just like Engine Kote. I spent about 3 hours on it........and prepare to get wet.

My parents are in the process of building a new house (I usually store my car in their car durring the winter.) I talked to them early on about the house they are building ... Convinced them to put on a 4 car garage each bay is 2.5 cars deep and the furthest bay out has a lift!!! im looking foward to this!

First off, I clean my fenderwells, but..... it is a part of the vehicle that is exposed to everything that the tires throw up from the road.
I sometimes think it would make just as much sense to clean the tire tread and then go drive the vehicle.
My fenderwells probably don't stay clean for a full day.

True, but I was speaking in the sense of, "hey look at that freshly cleaned car...oh, wait a minute....look at those nasty fenderwells..." Sure, they will get dirty, but I was meaning it in the way mentioned.

Understood, and no hidden meanings in my statement either.
It's just that it sometimes seems like such a wasted effort.

I use a pressure washer. I just bend over...and that's hard...I'm old....anyway I hold the wand under the truck and wash it. No muss no fuss. Not perfect but no mess and no dirty undercarraige. The wheel wells always get cleaned and sprayed with BnB.

It's made by a local company out of Rochester. You can buy it online at www.castleproductsonline.com but they only stock the 16oz size. I get it in gallons from the distributor. I haven't done a cost compairason between NV and floor shine so I don't know which one is cheaper.

Heres the discription of it from Castles website-
DESCRIPTION: N-V is blend of acrylic ploymers and resins, especially designed to resist sunlight and harsh weather conditions. Leveling agents allow the product to seep into small valleys commonly found on vinyl surfaces. Shampoo cleaners (such as Rug & Upholstery Cleaner and Spotless Car Wash) will not harm the treatment. Allowed to dry for 24 hours, N-V forms a hard shell over vinyl and brings out a high luster, sealing in color and life, while keeping the soft feel of the surface it protects.
 
Yes, thank you, I did find it. Seems like an interesting enough brand to check out. That's the real fun part about detailing, definitely no shortage of products :D
