Ultimate Chick Cars? 1. Mazda Miata

Lighten up Anthony.

Talk about stereotyping.

This is just a fun thread. There isn't a single car that I put on my list that isn't owned by both men and women. I would say that the average person primarily picked their car for utility and not for gender identification.

Everybody likes something different. Who cares?

Your's truly,

A douche bag with a mullet and a smoke hanging out of his inbred yap and his beer belly hanging over his too tight pants who also happens to own a pick up truck but not because it makes me more manly but because it helps me provide a nice income for my family

The color is a "chick" color not the car. If I seen any car pink in color I would assume it was owned by a female.

wannafbody- Heh heh, taking a pic of that [individual] would be in the "feeding the trolls" category IMO ;)

Eh, I think this gets into the "guy or gal version" thing, and I see it as the overall effect. [Note that Accumulator had a Mallett-built C5 ]

Maybe I'm off-track here, but to me a "chick car" is one likely to be owned by a female, for whatever reason. Styling, color, even that ineffable whatever-it-is that makes most VW Cabrios end up with female owners (though I *have* known a guy with one, and he simply loved the thing...plenty macho dude too).

I believe pink cars can look like like guy cars if they're, say...pink/black two-tone MOPARs from the 50s. Actually, there are a few pink 1950s cars in my area driven by (older) guys....an pink early T-bird is always out and about this time of year; those don't look effeminate to me, just a little corny.

And of course there are plenty of pink Kustoms/lowriders, whose owners sure wouldn't see them as chick cars!

The whole "sexist issue?" here kinda intrigues me....I know a number of women who would absolutely say certain vehicles are inheritantly "chick cars", and a few of those women can outdrive most any guy.

Heh heh, there are even plenty of "chick firearms" these days...bright colors, including pink. Much to my surprise, some women do apparently like 'em.

Is it sexism if stuff is marketed towards women, and women do in fact like it enough to buy it? In my household we don't call such stuff "girly", but rather "TFP", as in "Too [expletive]ing Precious".

Hmmm, I don't know anything about you so nothing I said was directed at you.

I'm confused are you saying your all of those things? I doubt your inbred. Maybe you have a beer belly and wear tight pants and you might have a mullet I don't know. It sounds like you are saying you are like the people I described and own a pick up truck.

My point was simply that I find it's your typical wannabe macho block head that goes around making comments about a car being a chick car. They usually have some really primitive ideas about what makes a man a man and even more primitive ideas about what a woman should be. You can just see them siting around the tube watching wrestling in their wife beater shirts seeing who can fart loudest. Al Bundy comes to mind.

I find a lot of cars the general population classify as 'chick' cars are actually really great to drive. Miata's, Cayman's, Boxster's, Mini's... etc. Hell, I'd gladly drive any one of them.

Exactly. No one is saying that "chick" cars are bad cars, just that they appeal more to women or are somehow perceived as being feminine. It's telling when someone immediately concludes that a "chick" car is necessarily a bad one. That has never been the point and is more indicative of a neanderthal-type mentality than someone (or some entity) that has produced such a list. Some pretty well respected entities have complied these type of lists over the years. It's ironic when the mentality, breeding and intellect of someone who has complied one is assailed by someone who appears wholly unable to construct a proper paragraph.

Not a chick's car:

I couldn't say it better myself.

Anthony, I was just messing around. It's the Internet. No harm no foul. As far as I know, my parents are only related by marriage anyway. lol

Nice try. Chick car has always been used in a derogatory way. There is nothing "indicative of a neanderthal-type mentality" by saying so either.

This one is funny. I'm commenting on a internet forum not writing a thesis. Check out some of the posts on here or any other forum before you comment about my ability to construct a proper paragraph.

Scottwax- Actually that E-body is *exactly* of what I'd think of as a chick car (for its type). If I had a daughter....

GatorJ- And similarly, that's what my imaginary daughter would use to clean up on handling courses! Too cute doesn't mean incompetent (car or driver).

No, no..can't agree with you there, especially where the women themselves are concerned. I know pretty many who are into cars and driving and they all use the term in a value-neutral manner, if not actually *positive*. Most of the guys I know IRL are the same way about it, even if they do snicker a little about certain examples.

And women are supposed to be better drivers than men in that they have faster reflexes.

Yeah, and females not having testosterone-induced, uhm...stupidity. At VDI, a number of best-ever performances were by women; the best (ABS) braking performance rating is purely a matter of how fast and hard the pedal gets mashed, and a 110lb lady with the Secret Service has everybody beat by a country mile even though guys regularly bend or even break the pedals.

Actually, some may be surprsided to know that the Mustang falls into a chick car category-at least the V6. Several attributes of the car were suited to appeal to women drivers-seat positionability, steering wheel size and thickness and not overly aggressive styling are just a few examples. The V8 is marketed more toward a male democgraphic.

@XL Advantage:

IMO:

Pontiac Solstice: no

Smart Car: yes

BMW Z3: z3, yes. z3 M, no

Anything from Saturn: yes, except for sky

Lexus ES300: no

Lexus SC430: yes, unless you're an old man.

Mercedes 230 Kompressor Convertible: first gen: yes. second gen: no

Honda del sol: eh.

Dodge Neon: shouldn't have been invented

Chevrolet Cavalier

I deleted the cars I don't know.

The Miata has got to be the number 1 chick car followed closely by the pont sunfire. I wouldn't be caught dead driving either one.
