Ultima Waterless Wash as a QD versus other QD's

So your mixing your OID&GE 1:4 and then mixing OCW 1:3 and then mixing those together in the same bottle or are they two different applications?

Yeah, they're going into the same bottle...read about this on another board and asked Optimum about it and they said give it a shot it could work. I don't know whether this would be a good idea on a car that is dirty...this is for right after a wash.

So it's: 4.8 oz OID concentrate, 19.2 oz of distilled water, and 8 oz of the ready to use Car Wax product put into a 32 oz bottle.

I'm glad that you have found a solution to your streaking problem but from what I'm reading I'm not so sure that you have figured out the OID. With the ratios you posted you have effectively created a ratio of 1.5:1 coupling that with using an applicator your essentialy waxing your car now not doing a QD or WW.

I agree...I haven't really figured out how to use straight OID sprayed on panels and wiped off. The distilled water at 1:3 or 1:4 along with being more careful when wiping it off might do it. And really, now that I look at it, I'm kind of defeating the purpose of the quick detailer - it's not "quick" the way I'm doing it. :) The reason I've continued to work with it is because I've not seen, out of any of the other quick detailers I've tried, as good of a look on the areas that are streak free as I do with the OID.

Hybrid V07 I literally spray it on and wipe it quickly a few passes and there's no streaking. Same with Aquawax and Poorboy's QD+. I imagine at some point I'm going to get tired of having to be meticulous with a quick detailer and will switch away from the OID. Everyone else thinks it is great (save a few others on the forums that had the same issues I'm having)...but on the other hand, it *should* be easy so there shouldn't be much I could be doing wrong.

I'm not really trying to use the product to remove dust and fingerprints and such...I'm scared to death to use anything other than a traditional or ONR wash when there is any kind of dirt on the car. If I were using it for that purpose, I'd imagine adding the wax in there or going to 1:4 wouldn't be the best thing (I'm guessing it'd reduce the lubricity of the OID.)

I too have had the streaking before when I first started using it. You say you use one spray per panel and then wipe. What I do now that seems to work without any problems and this is on a black car. Mixed at a ratio of 1:3 using distilled water I mist the whole panel so that you can clearly see there is product covering the whole area. Say I'm doing the hood to where I can only wipe one side at a time. Then I will spray say 2/3 of the hood so that the product reaches further than I can wipe. Then I go to the other side and spray the last 1/3 and wipe it off. That way there is no overspray on the section I just did or missed areas. I do this for all of the panels basically spray it past the panel I am working on and partially onto the next. For towels I am using cobra rolled edge towels, doesn't seem to matter which side I use. At first they will be a bit grabby but start to glide nicely once you get the heavy spray wiped off.

Figured I'd update this forum since three things have happened:
- I got Ultima's Waterless Wash Plus,
- I got a retail/premixed bottle of Optimum Instant Detailer, and
- A new LSP was put on about two weeks ago (Restructure Marine Super Polish)

Yesterday I washed with ONR and used Ultima's Waterless Wash Plus. Super easy to use and no streaking, smelled great, left the surface slick as I've ever felt it, and looked really glossy.

This morning, since it's cold up here and we get frost on our cars that turns a black car into a dirty car, I used Ultima's Waterless Wash Plus and the pre-mixed Optimum Instant Detailer as quick detailers. I used Ultima on one half of the car and Optimum on the other. I used Chemical Guys Sasquatch towels. Ultima was way easier to use in terms of keeping streaking and haze away...on the Optimum half I had to use 2 towels because as soon as one gets some product on it, the end of my wipe strokes get a film and then I've got to go over it again with a perfectly clean towel. I gotta be real careful with this product...the Ultima wipes right off and is extremely easy to use.

As for the gloss and slickness - Optimum may have a very *slight* nearly imperceptable edge, and I'm sure given nothing is ever good enough I'll go back to it in my search to get the car looking even better than I've got it (and probably try everything else that you guys recommend,) but for now the Ultima Waterless Wash Plus is what I'll use for a quick detailer.

Price factors into this stuff as well as - while I'm not on food stamps - alot of value on the product that I'll use most (after every wash and between washes, too) is great to have:
- Ultima per gallon (when using the concentrate) = $3.81
- Optimum per gallon (when using the concentrate) = $15.00
- Adams per gallon (to my knowledge they don't sell concentrate) = $39.99
The price on the Adams isn't bad...about $6.25 per 20 ounce bottle as compared to the $10 a bottle of mass market stuff costs at the auto parts store. But when you compare that to $.60 per 20 ounce bottle on the Ultima, it's a big difference that can't be ignored. In the end though if there was something that looked way better than the Ultima and Optimum I'd pay $20 per bottle because this has gone from washing a car to a hobby.

Good stuff! :D

You can beat the bargain of UWW.

Have you ever tried Adam's QD? Just wondering...

I have used Adam's. I think it is a different category type product. UWW features superior cleaning and ease of removal (no streaking) but it does not add as much gloss or slickness as Adam's. It is an expensive clay lube.

UWW is crazy good as waterless and pretty impressives as a QD.
I have used Adams, not a good value or performance when compared to Optimum or FK 425.
