Ultima Product Question

In another post a while back about interior cleaner/ protectants I scoffed at the high price of the Ultima Interior Guard Plus. But after many folks praised the product I made the purchase. I liked it! So I bought the Paint Guard Plus.

My question is regarding the Paint Guard Plus. I washed my Fiat with a sample bottle I had of Pinnacle Bodywork Shampoo. My first time using the soap and it is nice. Anyway, after the wash and dry and applied the Ultima Paint Guard Plus.

Several spots on the car were hazy after a while. The directions say wipe and walk away. Did I use too much? I tried to follow the directions, but it was the first time, so perhaps I used too much. Other areas looked really good! The paint flecks really popped.

I did this last weekend. The Fiat always gets very dirty on the back. Must be the design as it is the dirtiest part of the car. However, this week it has not been as bad. More dusty that is easily wiped away. Now this could be due to reasons other than the Ultima but it is something I will watch.

One other question, assuming I figure out how to either apply it correctly or if I just need to buff a little, is it advisable to use the Ultima Detail Spray between applications of the Paint Guard?

It does sound like maybe you over applied it in those areas. When applying it , it should "flash off to clear fairly quickly. If it doesn't I come back and very lightly buff it with a MF towel.

I would guess that it is the UPGP that is helping to keep your car cleaner. A sealant like UPGP will not attack as much dirt since it is very slick and not oily like a wax. I find the sweet spot for UPGP is around 2-3 layers. You get the best in durability and looks IMO.

If it was me I would simply buy the UWWP concentrate. It is a better cleaner and has the same properties as the detail spray. You use Ultima Waterless Wash Plus+ Concentrate as a waterless wash, rinseless wash, quick detailer, or clay lubricant to maintain your vehicle's shine.

I was the king of messing up my first ultima paint guard plus application. The easiest fix was to use the ultima detail spray to remove the streaks. I thill have some in the garage. If you PM me your address I will send you some to fix your issue.

You can also apply some more with the mf brick and wipe the excess if the car is very clean.

Which dilution ratio would make UWWP as a detail spray?

Yeah, probably like myself, after the first time using UPGP, it can look a bit "oily", and this can be caused by too liberal an application. Even sometimes applying it just right, you might still see some high spots here and there.

This product though is quite forgiving, not like a Coating. So, there's basically no harm no foul to apply, let sit in the shade for 10-15 minutes, then go back with a clean soft MF towel and wipe down. All clouding, hazing etc should then disappear.

In fact I did a interior detail this morning on my junkbox Kia Spectra, washed all the Door Jambs then an application of UPGP on all of them.

I simply used a small soft sponge applicator, literally "slop" the stuff on, making sure I get full coverage, and by the time I'm finished with applying, I go back around and wipe off with a towel.

Really great stuff on the Jambs, easy, quick, shines like the devil, and no worry about powdery residues left behind, like a wipe on wipe off product will.

Thanks for all the tips. I think next wash I will apply another coat. Good idea about the door jambs! A nice thing about the Fiat is it takes little time to apply a coat. This morning I used a California Duster to clean off the dust and then used a Quick Detailer to wipe down the car. The flecks of color in the black look good in the sun.

I took the car to the dealer for an oil change and tire rotation. The guy asked me if I wanted it washed and I said NO! Please don't.
