UK Detailing event

OK this is good feedback but I need some more such as:-

1. Numbers - are we talking about a handful of people or what? I see a lot of you guys belong to clubs so maybe worth speaking to other members to see whether they'd come along too.

2. Type of event - I guess it's a car show really. Remember, the more we want to do then the more it could cost. If I can get a venue for free then no problem at all BUT if you want food etc then it'll start costing. I will look into cost for a BBQ and let you know.

3. Do we want a concours, product demos or are we just looking to meet up somewhere and chat about car detailing? It seems that a lot of the US guys simply arrange to meet somewhere on a warm sunny day and show off their cars so I don't want to try and recreate SEMA you know?

4. Venue - this will cause a few headaches I know but I'm thinking Midlands. I know it's not exactly close for people in Scotland or Cornwall etc but it's pretty central. I plan to get maybe 2 or 3 venues and see what people think.

5. ANYTHING ELSE. Remember, no-one at autopia laughs at you so chuck anything in as the more ideas we get the better we can make this!

Cheers

Just a quik note to say I would be 'up for it' depending on time and location esp if it was in the south, what about us doing a show n shine?

I will be happy to do some judging if I can get two other people to help?

I run a Mini club so if you guys dont mind hoards of 10 foot terrors turning up I can sort that out.

well as my car is back in my country of malta, anywhere closeish to cheltenham/gloucester is appreciated.

i was thinkin just a handful of us autopians meetin up, those wit cars bring hem along, talk about techniques, new products, group buys and just get to know each other a lil more than just luke667 off www.autopia.org kinda put faces to the name

Mr Concours - Minis are fine! Show n shine good idea too

luke667 - hear what you say too. Depends on interest - event could well end up being a couple of dozen people. But Malta, there's a thought - might be a touch too expensive though.....

I'm kind of in agreement with Luke for a first meet... Autopian get together, chat techniques and products... If we've got power then we can bring the PC's and other toys along and some products to try...wether supplied by a company or by each individual, and have a little get together. I think a bigger meet is for the future when we know about venues, clubs involved, food, people etc etc.... It would be great to put on a big show but, the time, energy and money involved would be significant to say the least.

Cheers :).

I was thinking along the lines of UK autopia members just meeting up with or without their cars on a nice sunny weekend to share ideas, tips, a few beers and burgers. Water and power would be the best combo see we can practice with our PCs.

Nothing huge or too complex, just like meeting up with your mates for a good time. I thought it would only be like 1 or 2 dozen people tops.

Lets get it sorted....

cheers

I'd go along with the last few posts - a very informal affair, UK Autopia members just getting together for a good chin-wag to discuss methods etc. Maybe just bring our own disposable bbq's and grub plus a couple of tinnys. If we could get power, then I'd love to see some of you guys using your PC's (I'm not at that stage yet!). Also, it would be great if Alex could bring along some samples and stock... I'm sure we'd all end up making a few purchases!!

A good place may actually be a nice pub somewhere with a large car park, so we don't upset other customers with our mad polishing and waxing. Landlord/lady would know they've got a decent days takings coming, drinks and food etc. So they may let us use some electric and water, especially if we use their car for testing......errrrrrr I mean detail his/her car :D

You never know they may have a nice big garage, just in case the weathers bad

Anyone know a good place :nixweiss

I was thinking Midlands area too

Sounding pretty good to me :up

I would go along with an informal meet to start with - then maybe it can develop into something bigger and better.

As noted, location is going to be difficult and I can see that we may end up with a couple of meets, one North and one South - sounds like Alex and Andy are volunteering to co-ordinate.

Pub venue sounds good too - local car clubs often know good venues for this sort of thing, so if Alex and Andy can start proposing some rough locations, we can all decide if we can make it there and then finalise exact locations and dates later.

I certainly won't be bringing anything to brag about. If its any distance I will be in the daily driver. If its closer then if I have something else on the road then I may bring it but only to demonstrate a project in progress!

i am all up for the informal gathering as a first meet just to see how things go and to share ideas not to mention putting names to faces :D

i only have a daily driver, going back into studies next year so need all the money i can get. but i will make certain to give her a good clean and shine as i have been serisouley neglecting my car during the winter.

This is great guys and the consensus seems to be a pub type meet. The co we use for PR are based in Coventry and should be able to sort something for us or at the very least give me some suitable venues. I'll make the necessary enquiries and see what I can arrange.

I've just remembered that my wife's cousin used to (maybe still does!) work at Castle Combe Racing Circuit in Wiltshire, just down the road from me.

I know this maybe unsuitable for a first informal meet, but for a 2nd or 3rd if things take-off, could be great! I know that quite a few car clubs use it for their meets, including Ferrari Owners Club... If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me!!!

I'll try to find out more and let you all know at a later date.

BTW - the pub meet is sounding like a good idea! Everything to hand... food, drink, power, water etc... I like the idea from tnoy66 about offering to detailing the landlords car whilst we're there - nice touch.

A bit late on this topic but I'm up for it. An informal & friendly concours might be a good idea, or what about meeting at a racing circuit, all park together & watch a bit of Racing, maybe Donington or Mallory for being Central

Jim, that's fine - the more the merrier etc.

I've been offered a venue in Yorkshire but this may be too north of the Watford Gap for some us shandy (and cider!) drinkers.

Circuits are a good idea definitely as I can get tickets for race meets at little or no charge but the downside there is getting somewhere with power etc - will look into this as I maybe able to come up with something.
