UK Detailing event

Quote from Meguiars in the UK

We do demonstrations for clubs at a local detailers called Swoshh. If you are a member of a club and would like to arrange one of these demonstrations or discuss the options then please call us

They are based near Northampton. I have not talked to them yet to find out what exactly they will do on one of these but it could be interesting.

Anyone know any more or anyone else interested?

Good idea but Swosh are simply a valeting co who just happen to be located about 2 minutes away from Megs UK HQ.

If you want a bunch of free Megs consumer range samples then may be a good idea but unless they're flying Mike Phillips over I don't think it's worth it (although it'd be great to be proved wrong).

I've met the boss there and wasn't impressed at all but maybe he just doesn't like boring old repmobiles!

At the moment, Megs UK are simply pushing as hard as they possibly can - sound marketing but...anyway I'll stop there as I don't want to bore y'all.

Thats the sort of information I wanted to know! There were only ever three possibilities to this event;

They don't know any more than us

They know less than us - in which case Meguiars are going to end up being embarrased

We might actually learn something.

I was suspicious that the last was the least likely!

Yeah, don't forget that Meg's have only been in the UK for the last couple of years, and have no where near the reputation that they do in the States, nor the backing. I think it will be a while before we get any master classes that would blow any of us away.

Meg's have got a difficult task trying to make it big in the UK against the likes of Autoglym, Zymol and Turtle Wax etc, although considering they only advertise the consumer range to the public, I think they are doing a good job so far.

Their job is to make sales and get the brand recognised by the public, I think if we want to do a detailing event, it will have to be something the real enthusiasts (us :D) get together ourselves imho.....

Cheers :)

Well why don't we organise that somewhere for the summer.

A weekend detail-fest with a big summer b-b-q and booze-up thrown in for good measure.

How many UK autopians are on this board and where are they based.

Must be some way of organising an event like this, surely.

Face

Replies already... cool.

Perhaps we also ought to find out when people CAN'T make a get-together, because of holidays, work commitments etc.

i can't make June 26/27th, July 3rd/4th or July 10th/11th

well i'm up for it and the beer and BBQ ;)

I'm in leicester and would travel for about an hour this is a great idea.:up

I'll be there..........where ever there may be :) ..............provided i'm not working :(

K-Csaxo where abouts in Yorks are you??

Well my diary is not booked yet. What sort of location are we considering? Presumably we need somewhere with power if we are to play with toys (or generators)

Dunno where. Anyone have a suitable location in mind?

We need electric, water and beer... what a combo!

first up is get an idea about numbers etc, when people can't make it, yada yada yada.

maybe Alex can bring some stock so we can all BUY BUY BUY!

;) well Megs in the uk is only big to steve king who runs megs uk has very big money supporting him from the usa which allways helps and a lot of adverts from emap ie max power ,revs ,classic car and so on.you have a lot of money to throw at something you will catch the market . i was at the classic car show at the nec and heard a megs guy telling a guy he need not clay his car after a year if when he washed it it still felt smooth that was ok .nothing about running a cigarette wrapper over the paint work to find out how clean the paint was.also went to the max power live in london and saw the megs cars there was not impressed with what they had done.yes like you guys im up for meeting mike from the usa but the guys here i would not waste my time and im a authorised mothers detailer and ex zymol detailer .

i am 100% up for it, even tho my car is in malta...and i am in uk studying...would be cool meeting the rest of y'all to talk about products and of course i'd be buying soooo many produx

anytime would be good for so long as i cant get enough notice to tell me manager.

tnoy66: i am based in leeds about 15 miles away from you.

some testers and supplies etc wouldn't be a prob for people to play with :).

I also am carless at the mo (the daily driver doesn't count!!), so better get in gear and get hunting for a new toy!!....

Andy is quite connected through his work, so if he doesn't mind (and has the time), maybe I'll have a chat and see if its possible to find a location or at least get an idea of where we could hold this gathering. Hope you don't mind me mentioning it Andy?

Cheers :).

No problem at all Alex.

He's quite right, in that Megs UK are trying to compete with some well established players in the car care industry and Steve & team are simply hitting as many events as they can - simple marketing.

Sorry if I was a bit negative in my initial response - it's just that I went to this valeting co with Rob @ Megs UK as he kindly agreed to ask them to see if they could help with my swirls. Bottom line is that they displayed no more knowledge than I already have and to be honest I've learnt more here than these guys could do - hence me getting the PC (this guy didn't even know what a PC is).

I've been giving this some serious thought over Christmas. Alex is quite right, in that I have a lot of contacts in the classic/specialist car world and I will look into finding a venue over the next couple of months.

There is a big car club event at Donington in September and the co I work for is sponsoring the concours - it's a bit different to the norm but I don't want to spam so if you want more details, pls PM me or get your club to contact me and I'll put them onto our PR people.

I'll get to work on this and keep everyone posted. I do need to sort out a toy of me own first as there's no way I'm showing off a repmobile or GF Ka, no matter how sparkling they might be!

BTW Alex - check your PM's

Hi there you guys... I recognise some of you from the MegsUK forum (Alex, AndyC, Luke667, rasler)

I'd love to come and see all your cars and detailing techniques etc... I'm always up for learning a bit of extra knowledge on the detailing front.

BTW I'm based near Bath. Seems like we're all pretty far apart!

PM.
