UDM vs. Rotary

So, Ive had my PC for 3 years now. Its got me far in the detailing world, but (and this is a big but) it just does not get out the deep swirl marks. Its just not strong enough, and it saddens me that I have to turn down friends because I don't have a good enough of a machine.



My question for you all is will the UDM suffice my needs, or do I really need to finally learn how to use a rotary? To be honest, I'm scared of those things. Horror stories of buffer trails and burning the paint (yuck!)



I really do need a machine where it doesn't take 2 hours to remove half a hoods worth of swirls.:geez

3 years now? I think it's time you step up to a rotary.



Although in a week or two I'm going to try the UDM with a compound and see how well that works. I'll be using 4* MCC and seeing how deep it'll cut and how quickly.
 
Ya I dont know, I love my pc for applying polishes...but it doesn't do jack for me as far as getting deep swirls out. Just very light swirls.
 
If you have the PC and know how to use it, a rotary isn't really that hard to learn. Just keeping it level and constantly moving it are the 2 major things to remember. I'd say go with the rotary, ie: Metabo, and ADD to the PC (as opposed to replacing it with the UDM).
 
You guys make it sound like learning a rotary is complicated rocket science or something. Here I'll make it suuuuuuuuper simple for it. Pick it up. Feather the switch and just pay attention to what your doing. It's not hard at all. And once you learn it you'll kick yourself in the arse for messing around with stupid toys for so long and not stepping up to a real detail machine.
