UDM + Meguiar's Backing plate and 6.5" Pads?

Does anyone know if the velcro backing plate and 6.5" pads that Meguiar's sells will be compatible with the UDM? I would only consider switching from the PC if my 20+ pads would still work.

i'm sure they'll work, but since the UDM is more powerful... the megs backing plate may de-laminate (megs doesn't recommend using the PC past the 5 setting, and most everyone on here uses it at 6) and also may not be able to hold up to the power. hopefully someone on here can chime in if they have one...

i'm sure it'll fit, but will they last... the UDM has more power than the PC, and if you use the PC at 6 (like most on here) it may cause the megs backing plate to de-laminate (possibly shred the pads as well). hopefully someone who owns the UDM can chime in...

IME the Meg's backing plate doesn't hold up to heavy PC use, so unless as SpoiledMan says, something has changed, it will never hold up on the UDM.

The BF is you smallest concern with your 20 pads.

Im almost certain that Megs does not use the PUR glue. I would hesistate to operate the UDM above 3-4 for sure.....

You'll have no issue with the Meg pads (below speed 5), but unless they recently changed their backing plate, my experience with them was not good. The Velcro on the plates I tried a year+ ago did not hold worth a darn.

Could I just buy a new backing plate but use the Meg's pads? There is no way I'm buying a UDM if I need to pad 10 new pads at $10 each as well.

Yes you can. Give it a go with the BP you have and see if it works out. Pay close attention to it though and you might want to have a backup handy. Mine just stopped gripping pads.
