Two Items - How I got here and Meguiar's Wheel Brush.

I wanted to talk about a couple things and did not want to open two threads, so here is a two-fer-one....

First, how I got here:

This forum has completely changed how I detail my car. First, let me say I have always taken good car

of my cars, such as I use Zaino on them, but I was never so obsessive/compulsive about my cars, until

I started reading the autopia threads. Here is how I found autopia. I am a member of the ACURAMDX forum

and in one of the ACURAMDX threads, a guy mentioned a specific polish and I pm'd him about the product and

in his reply, he mentioned he read about the polish here on autopia. So, a couple months ago, I visited this site

and my detailing technique has never been the same.

Thanks to this forum, I have become a fan of Duragloss. I still have Zaino on one of my cars, but I think

the difference is so marginal, I will drop the Zaino and go for the convenience, shine and durance of the

Duragloss product. I am very impressed with the shine and slickness of the Duragloss product and there is

nothing like the AquaWax. I must say it is fun to go to Carquest and touch and feel the bottles, before purchasing

them. I got so carried away, I purchased 3 bottles of AW. Now, on two cars, it will take over a year to use all three

bottles. Along with the 601, 105, I use the AW, I use the leather cleaner, the leather conditioner and the

vinyl/leather cleaner/protectant and the tire shine product.

Thanks to this forum, I now use regular microfiber and waffle weave towels. I have a supply of Wal-Mart WWs.

I have a supply of Sam's Club microfiber towels. I have a supply of wheel cleaner, I have a supply of

tire shine products. I now clean the wheel wells and spray them with one of my tire shine products. I now

have the inside of my wheels looking as clean as the outside. After each wash, I now always spray my car

with Duragloss AW, after drying it. I use a leaf blower to dry the car. I own a Craftsman, lifetime

warranty fireman's water hose nozzle. I had never heard of such a thing before this forum. I use the nozzle

to do a final spray to remove the water beading for quicker drying. In addition to the fireman' nozzle, I

now have everything that connects to my water hose on quick connectors. I have two wash buckets

(but I have always been careful about doing wheels last and not using car body wash mitts to clean

the wheels and tires). I have three different styles wash mitts. I have 10 Meguiar’s brushes, I purchased

from Big Lots. Needless to say, thanks to this forum, I have less cash in my pocket...

The second topic is the Meguiar's Wheel Brush:

I know there has been lots of discussion about the Meguiar's brushes. Yesterday, I used the wheel brush to

clean the inside of my wheels. I could not believe how easy this brush slide thru the wheel slots and

cleaned the inside of the wheels. The brush worked so well, I went to Big Lots yesterday evening and purchased

2 more to use in the years to come. I have also used the Meguiar’s brushes to wash my car a couple times and

have used the wheel face brush too and find them to work very well. I am cautious in my technique of how I

use the brushes and I do not see them causing any problems with the skin of my car.

Well, now you have the rest of the story... Page twoooooooo....

Hokie....

Welcome to Autopia.

Your addiction is shared amongst us but fortunately there aren't many downsides to our compulsive habits... unless of course you count the many of dollars spent only because certain items HAVE to be tried :chuckle:

:woot:

I found AW and the biglots goodies through this forum! Try the long haul QD at biglots, its great for claying!

I have to agree with you on their wheel brush. It works great and it seems like it should last for a long time. I also bought mine at Big Lot's so for the price, it couldn't be beat.

Welcome to the forum!

It's certainly fueled my addiction with lots of new ideas and good experience sharing. :)

Welcome to the forum.

I agree with you as I have learned a lot since coming here and reached a whole new level of car care techniques and products.

I will take slight exception to a previous post though. It's only with foolishness (as in 'a fool and his money are soon parted') that the OCD results is a large dollar loss.

I think the true "zen of auto detailing" is finding the most efficient, cost effective products and processes to maintain that near showroom like daily driver. But that doesn't mean will all have to experiment until the haul us off to the loony bin or the poor house!

(LOL - I'm just reminded that "We may all end up in the poor house, but we'll drive there in style!!!)

Yes, it is the wheel/spoke detail brush. It has yellow bristles and is about 12 to 14 inches long, including the handle and the bristle area is about 2 1/2 inches in diameter.

I do hope I have stabilized my products somehat now. I did get carried away at first, but after using a few products, I am slowly settling in on my favorites... That is until

the next thread talks about the deals somewhere.. From a paint care standpoint,

I am happy with Duragloss, but my biggest weakness is the tools, such as the wheel/spoke speciality brush. I have three now. Anyone with good sense would know I do not need 3 brushes. They seem to be strong and seem as if they will last forever, so why did I go back and buy two more....:nixweiss

Welcome to Autopia!

I'm a big fan of that Meguiar's brush too! There's not a Big Lots anywhere near me, but I'm planning on taking a road trip to one soon. Hopefully, they have the brushes there.

I just picked up two this afternoon from Big Lots..... I didn't really think I needed another wheel brush the last time I was there, but since this one is so popular I figured I'd better snag one or two before they're gone.

Probably not a bad idea. There was a comment in a thread recently that Meguiar's was going to discontinue that brush. This was never confirmed though and I didn't find evidence on Meguiar's site regarding the comment.

VaTech Hokie welcome to Autopia. There is so much you can learn and pick up here. I read posts all night at work. Autopia is great. I went to Big Lots today and picked up a wheel brush and also found some microfibers at a good price. Welcome agian!

Welcome aboard. I too have that brush (Pep Boys sells alot of Meg's stuff) and the thing I'm starting to hate about it is that little rubber tip keeps coming off on mine. Scratched the inside of one of my summer wheels.

To me it seems that the brush doesn't scrub so well as just move the product or soapy water around. So it's good for agitation.

When I was last at our local Detail Suppliers (they call it Doll Up here) they had a brush with similar bristles but a wooden handle. I may try that one next

is that brush safe for powdercoated wheels?

The brush description says it can be used on all wheels. I do not use this particular wheel/spoke brush on the wheel face. I am using it to clean the inside of the rims.
