Twice a year wax - any recommendations?

I sure as hell don't detail friends or even relatives cars for free. Real bad habit to get into. Cash, booze or some kind of favor in return (like sheetrocking the garage) is in order.



If a car is garaged at least half the time each day #20 will last longer then 3 months. Especially in cooler mild months of the year. Guess I didn't notice if these were outside 24/7.



Here I was thinking I'm the only one that really relates to Jim A. and now I've found another Jim A. fan.

Thanks everyone for your ideas and thoughts. Bretfraz - I think you hit the nail on the head.



There is no product that will last for 6 months, at least not a one-step. Since my friends have been driving around with no protection for a while, any protection for even part of the year is better than nothing.



I had never thought of Meguires Medallion - never used it before. But maybe that would be a decent way to go.



I've thought of proposing that I do their cars for a fee, but since I'm relatively new (at least compared to some of you guys) I'm afraid that I could screw something up and be left with a couple of unhappy friends. Then again, I've never messed up my ride, so I guess I'm a little paranoid. Maybe in the future, but right now I think that my friends would sooner just drive their cars around with no protection, washing them with Turtle Wax wash a couple times a month, before they paid me to do their cars.



Only time will tell if they will come around... Maybe when I get my Autopia sticker they'll check this site out and find out what they're missing...:nixweiss
 
Well if they are used to no protection or shine and if you know how to use the products ............... like you said, a little something is better than nothing.



Charge them 60.00 a wax and go over there car with nufinish once and then the meguiars polymer sealent once and clean the rims and tires and send them on their way.
 
The only real benefit I see to NuFinish is that it's a pretty decent paint cleaner.

It doesn't work very well as a cleaner.



It doesn't appear to be very abrasive becuase it doesn't shine up the clearcoat like a wax/polish that contains sand/kaolin would (i.e. Liquid Glass (silica), 3M IHG (kaolin), Meguiar's #20 (kaolin), #26 (kaolin), Gold Class (kaolin))
 
#20 Will last 5 to 6 months, it did when i used it. NuFinish does have more cleaning bite but all in all #20 is a much better paoduct, in my opinion.



:rolleyes: The old days of Autopia nothing but Klasse, #20, IHG, Blitz and FI2, i remember them well. :D
 
I know of 2 products that are sold in Toronto and the GTA that will last 6 months.



The first product is called Crystal Glo. Their web site is www.crystal-glo.com . This is an acrylic based paint treatment and is available from Home Hardware as a special order (Item #8657-170). This sells for about $20 CAD. I have ordered this product and will be testing this shortly.



The second product is called CarBrite Weather Shield (A065). The product info is found at http://carbrite.com/a065.htm . This is the paint sealant that dealers like to sell you for about $200 to $400 when you go to buy a car. According to CarBrite, they suggest you apply 1 to 2 coats and it is good for 1 year. This costs about $24 a litre and this bottle would give you about 8 to 10 coats on a mid size car. The $24 is like a 4 year supply so its not too bad ($6 a year). I have heard good things about this and I might look into buying this if I can't get my hands on some Klasse.



CarBrite is not sold in stores but is available from a distributor. In Toronto and the GTA, the distributor can be reached at 905-565-1818.
 
Seriously, I would ask your friends if you could detail it for them for $60. Since it sounds like time is their biggest concern, they might like the idea of you doing it for them.



If not, I would say Klasse AIO or NuFinish.

Oh you'd better believe it is!!! I live about 30 minutes away from Canada's AG distributor, and lots of places (not major parts stores though) and dealerships stock it as the most "exotic" stuff they carry.



A local BMW dealership also stocks Crystal Glo here. I blew it off as I was scouring the city for Klasse... time to do some research. (After I'd decided on trying Liquid Glass of course :rolleyes: )



I would've picked AG if it weren't for three things:

-Lots of people report short lifespan

-After emailing AG in the UK, they tell me, "Extra gloss protection will layer up to 2 coats but not beyond that." And I wanted layering darn it!

-They also told me it had to be put on with a dry applicator. (ie, no product stretching)



It's too bad, because I really tried hard to like Autoglym.

I dont know how many layers can be applied, but I dont see why more than 2 layers cannot be applied. Dont forget you can top with wax either on top of Extra Gloss or Super Resin.

Thanks Lowejackson. I read the CMA site but I also read several reports to the contrary, some of them yours I think? :nixweiss I don't know about the layering either, but that's exactly what they told me. (:nixweiss again)



The funny thing is, I'm now trying to buy webviper's used Klasse instead of LG, so no experimenting anymore... oh well.
