Tutorial: Menzerna & PC (lots of pics)

The swirls that are on this SC430 are very light, only seen in sun as this is new paint.

I'm trying the FP first just to see how much it will effect the swirls. If it does not do the job, then I'll go up to IP with the orange pad.

I normally start low and work my way up if I do not get the results. No need to use a more aggressive product unless it truly needs it.

Now, if this damn rain would stop! Every weekend it's been raining!

Hand application can be done, but it will take longer and more work. The polishes are best used with a polisher. Small hand applications are OK, but a whole car would be a nightmare!

Well, did the SC430 with Menzerna IP/FP but did not have much luck with swirl removal. Orange pad was used with IP, then White with FP. Still, swirls from the dealer are there! Pretty odd since IP is supposed to remove swirls. This is with a PC model 7335 (Meguiars own model) set at 3.5/4.

Oh well, back to DACP if the weather holds!

Menzerna Was ment to be applyed with a Rotary. for best results go over it a couple times with the IP with your PC dont be scared of increaseing the speed I use it with my rotary at 1200RPM and have no problems. and it removes all my swirls on a 3 year old car.

OK if you say so... break out the big guns! It's time for Ro-Zilla.

I did speed it up, but no luck. I may have to use a cutting foam on the PC, which is model 7335 (Meguiars branded).

Don't ya just love your dealer? So nice of him to throw in those swirls for free!

Yah the way i do it is i take my rotary mist the pad really good with QD then i spread the polish all around the hood or where ever im doing it start at low rpm 800 then i speed up gradually and press down more and move around alot not in the same place it will get to hot then i speed up to 1200-1350rpms and press harder till the polish is all gone and turns to a haze then whipe off it should be really easy to whipe off. Then check to see if there is swirls if there is then redo it if there isnt to many go over with FP at a higer speed and you will see nice results.

Wow, great timing on the tutorial...I just got my shipment of Menzerna in last week. Maybe I'll get a chance to use it this weekend.

Fr0zen, so you mist with QD? How do you like that compared with misting the pad with water?

If you mist with water it tends to start to drip out of the pad and go all over the place the quick detail kind of absorbes into the pad better and it alot more slippery then water it also dries pretty quick but lubes good.

i've been searching all day for this thread! i just started working with my pc and IP today...

i'm confused to say the least. I applied enough product to "almost" cover a 2x2 area but when i polished it at 5 for a few minutes, there is still a heavy residue left over from the IP.... and i can't buff it out with a towel... should i just hit it with the PC at 5 for a few more minutes?

also i buffed until it was invisible but the residue was still there. i had to go out for dinner with pop and didnt get a chance to do anthing else... will i come back to a PITA tomorrow?

Thanks for all the pictures and writeup! I do much better when I can see pictures rather than just reading descriptions.

I think I'll bookmark this thread so I can come back to it when I finally get a PC!

Dr. Jones- Good post and good timing! I was hoping Blackmagicwrx would see this, I was just thinking it might be useful to him. Hopefully some experienced Menzerna user can help him out.

Glad I could be of help. The original post was over a year ago, and I wasn't that good with Menzerna. There are some other tips that people posted here (like using less product) that would be useful.

Pictures are very very helpful. If I can get my hands on a decent digital video camera and some easy to use software I might do some similiar videos. That is of course once I get my car back (The civic was stolen a few days ago ). :sosad

Very informative thread! Wish there were more like this one. I just ordered the Menzerna twins and a Orange power pad. Would Pinnacle Crystal Mist be o.k. to use for the QD? Once again awesome thread.

Great instructions...thought these could use a bump.

I'm sort of a newb to detailing, but have been doing quite a bit of reading on here lately. Anyways, I bought the Menzerna and Klasse Twins and went to work on my gf's '95 civic which has seen 9 winters in Cleveland and waaay too many auto car washes.

Here was my process....

Wash

Clay (clay magic)

Menzerna IP w/ Sonus orange cutting pad

Menzerna FPII w/ Sonus blue polishing pad

AIO

SG

I removed 90+% of the fine swirls and "eased" the heavier scratches significantly.

I found that the IP was fairly difficult to work with (for a newb). I had to find the happy balance between how large of an area I could do and how much product to use before it dried.

I would reccomend that when you are just starting out with IP, do a fairly small area (half the area Dr. Jones did) just to get the hang of how workable the product is. As you get a feel for how much product you need, build up to larger areas.

I'm sorry - I'm new here but I am trying to learn from these posts.

What is a PC, IP, FP and Menzerna?

On the top left portion of the main page there is a link to the "Secret Decoder Ring". It's a cheat sheet to all of the acronyms used here. ;)
