Turtle Wax(R) Ice(TM) Synthetic Car Polish

I'd Buff It
I saw a few new products at my local Walmart today. One was Turtle Wax "Ice" looked interesting. It's a water clear looking formula polymer that can also be applied to exterior rubber, plastic and vinyl trim to restore color and shine without leaving white residue. It also claims can be applied in direct sunlight and on hot surfaces without streaking.

Anybody try it yet ?

Of course it has its own companion quick detailer too.

I also saw a new Armor All Gel Tire Dressing that looked interesting, it came with an applicator swipe also.

I've tried the qd and its one of the top qd's next to #425, Zaino z-6, and TurtleWax Ultra Gloss Detailer, in my arsenal.

Give it a try. I haven't tried the Ice Sealant though.

I bought the ICE and it reminds me of the acrylic floor wax...I put some on my refrigerator and it was very wet looking and slick as hell....

The Qd is very nice..I tried that on my truck after a quick wand wash and wipe down with some S&W...it was so easy to wipe off..no streaks..and it was 38 degrees out...it was slick and deep shine...next day it rained and it was like my truck was blow drying it self while driving.

they say do not use on glass for the ICE...I put some on a piece of glass to see what is looked like dried...it looked like a thin coat of clear nail polish...so it must be some type of Acrylic....

the QD was 8.99 and the ICE sealant was around 15.00 and some change...got them at Advance auto with a 20.00 gift card...

I tried it on "Mikey" my daily beater (Suzuki Black metallic repo) and it has a couple of good points:

1. Can apply and buff in direct sunlight (true, but it was still cold in KC so I don't know what a black hood/roof will do).
2. Can apply on/near plastic trim. True. I used a finish pad and purposely did the matte plastic door handles and trim.

I did approx. 1/2 of the Vitara at a time and removal was easy. There is a warning not to get it on glass, and I heeded the warning.

The product is very thin: 7up is thicker!

Longevity is an unknown, but I'll post it after a couple of weeks. Finish wise, it's pretty slick (near Meg's #21 Sealant level)

Man, that's a tough question at this early stage. I'd like to see what kind of durability ICE has. It's supposed to rain this weekend and more next week. I'd guess that following the rains and a new wash, I'll be better informed for a decent opinion.

On another board, someone posted using the ICE qd and said it worked fine. I'm seeing a trend of the companies like Meg's, Mother's, Turtle Wax, etc to all produce a high quality, $14-18 range of waxes that pretty much give equal results. I mean, each one of those companies has: a) Polish/Cleaner b) Liquid Wax, and c) Detail Spray branded with the same name.

Durability will probably be the decision maker for me.

I used some of the ICE today, since I am waiting on some orders to come in and I was really bored I picked up a bottle. I didn't really impress me all that much except for that it made plastic trim look good. I also clayed for the first time today, I learned 2 things today. I learned that the spray that comes with Mothers clay smells just like Goldschlager, I was a little worried about going driving afterwards lol, and I learned that claying really does make your car look a lot, lot better after you are done.

P.S. Was it just me or did that ICE stuff smell alot like Kerosene.

Totoland,
What kind of prep did you do on the Vitara?

Eric

Eric: The only prep was a wash, dry since it had a previous coat of Meguiar's #21 Synthetic Sealant.

The durability was not good 4-5 days, but like another member said, it does a great job on black trim (which was heavily stained white on the Vitara).

I ended up throwing a coat of NXT cause I have some supply of that product.

Here's a closeup of the door handle after 3 days of rain. It was in awful shape before I used ICE...white mottled which required constant Back To Black treatment. Gee, maybe ICE should be called plastic trim wax! It seems to work great.

I've got a good road trip next week with the Vitara (1,000 miler) and will let you know how the trim holds up.

Thanks for the picture... I was curious because I have a jeep grand cherokee laredo with the plastic trim and it seems like if I ever dress it with anything...whenever it rains it always streaks really bad.

I know how much this group likes pictures :)

First impression is I agree about with the floor polish comment. Looks and smells a lot like an acrilic floor polish.

I picked up a bottle at my local Schucks auto parts. Wal-Mart in my area did not have it yet. The cost is a bit high at $17.99. It came with a foam applicator and a MF towel.

It is 41 degrees and raining this morning, so this is probably a worst case test.

First picture. I did half of the gray trim. You can see the half that is done leaves a nice wet look to the trim. It is a look I've been wanting to get.

The next picture is a mirror that is also treated with ICE.

The final picture is a mirror treated about two weeks ago with back-to-black. You can see it is mostly washed off.

I've been looking for something that would work better than back-to-black. It has a tendency to leave streaks on my doors after a good rain. I'll report back on this after two weeks and see how this stuff holds up.

stoners trim shine might work well for your black plastic. Aio is also good. Heck any "decent" polish might work for your plastic trim. For rubber trim, I've found that ForeverBlack works very well
