Turtle Wax Platinum Wax Liquid impressions/mini review and a question

So I got bored and decided to try some.

Anyways, there are two things that stand out in my mind from using this product. One is the bottle design. They have included a little plastic piece on the opening which helps to restrict the amount of product coming out and it works wonderfully. All liquid waxes should have this feature...

The second thing that stood out in my mind was the ease of applying the product. I haven't tried using that many waxes before but TW is much easier than any that I've used. The products I've used and serve as a comparison are Autoglym SRP, DG105, and DG 101. TW beats all of them hands down.

The following are my impressions:

Test Conditions

Sunny-esque weather

a bit breezy

paint was warm

70ish degree weather

red car

Keep in mind that I only applied it to the passenger door and didn't do the whole vehicle.

Smell

It smells quite good for a liquid wax. Probably the best smelling wax that I've used.

Product

Its a white liquid thats a little bit runny but overall, not too bad. The weird thing that I've noticed is that once it is on the paint, it becomes greasy. I've never seen this happen before. If you apply too much, it can harden into a white residue that normally occurs when you use waxes(maybe I didn't apply enough?). A little can definitely go a long way.

Sit time

Not really to sure about this one. I could do the finger swipe test almost immediately after application but thats been the experience with most of my waxes anyways. I left it on for 20 minutes and it made no difference so I got impatient and buffed it off...

Slickness

It is more slick than 105 but not quite as good as 101 which is weird because supposedly, 105 is slicker than 101 but my findings are the opposite. All of these are slicker than SRP.

Looks

To be honest, I didn't use it on a properly cleaned surface. I washed the car and dried it and then put on TW. The car already had a 3 month old application of DG105 which may or may not have effected the final looks.

Anyways I don't see much of a difference but I suppose if I squinted really hard, I noticed that it dulled the reflections a bit but that could also just be my imagining things. I've actually put on two layers to see if it makes a difference although there was only about 1 hour of cure time between the two applications.

Protection

Not really sure.

Durability

Again not really sure. Isn't protection and durability the same thing?

Beading

No idea

Value

Extremely affordable for what it offers which so far is extreme ease of application and no worse than average looks. I can easily imagine you can wax a car 20-30 times with one bottle.

Overall

Seems to be a decent product, no idea how long it lasts or beads though. I just wish all waxes could be applied this easily...

and lastly, my question

Why does this product leave a greasy finish as I apply the product? Is there any other LSP that does this? I imagine its partially why it was so easy to apply.

Thank you for your time...more reviews to come

Thks for the review. I've used TWPUG before too. Altho from my experience it doesn't bead well and last very long. Mine is liquid too has become water and spoiled, so I throw it away. I still got the paste version one tho. But the TWPUG is very easy to wipe off tho. :)

Thanks for starting this thread.

I used the liquid version and I remember that application and buffing was very easy.

The smell is quite alright, a bit cherry-like IMO.

I managed to get it to last for 1 month at least on the engine bonnet on a daily driver before I stripped it to polish.

I think I will try this product again to confirm my past experience.

BTW, protection and durability is not the same. Protection deals with how much damage it can 'shield' the paintwork. Durability deals with how long that 'shield' will last before failing. I hope that clear things up. :xyxthumbs

I don't know if the Euro version was the same as the US-spec, but my TWPUG liquid has a slight coco-like smell (exactly the same as HTEC).

Yes, they are both easy to apply/remove, and personally I love their looks. Yes, the liquid has this strange behavior it looks like curdle when freshly applied, but it is supposed to work that way I think.

I'm a big fan of the TWPUG line and also the Gloss Guard which is a truly great, long lasting sealant.

I suspect that it contains silicone oils to help boost gloss.

i have both ; the liquid and the paste.

the liquid is white, i dont like applying it with the PC, and its a little bit difficult to take off, and it has essentially been shelved.

the paste is a brown colour, with a different smell than the liquid...i believe the two are completely different animals. I do love using the paste. its awesome stuff and goes on so nice,,,,like butter. easy off, and the look is great...not unlike NXT...it is very glossy and really darkens the paint.

NXT - $30.00 /// TWUP paste - $12.99 /// same look - no brainer.
