turtle wax clay bar?

Never heard of it ? Lets us know, I think this is a first....I noticed they have a F21 polish/polymer protectant formula, sound a lot like the E/O, nanowax.....

I have to admit, their leather Cleaner/Protectant is one of the better ones ive used....

I just got the six-pack of TW clay bars on eBay. At first, I thought they were just like the Mothers clay bars because they were yellow. When they came, they seem to be more like the Clay Magic blue bar I have visually (they seem to be, um, more "textured" than the Mothers, if that makes any sense?). They also seem to be rather hard. I haven't opened one up yet, but the copyright date on the label in the plastic sleeve says 1998 (?). I HOPE it's not that old. If they're still good, then at $35 for six they were a steal. If not, I'm out the equivalent of 3 cans of #16... I will try them when I have a clay to do, unless somebody tries it first.

yeah thats where i saw them on ebay, but was worried about the same thing. Thanks for the reply and tell me how they work out.

Detailing clay is usually made from plastic, there were some made from a polymer (but they are a copyright infringement and now 'illegal'). My point is either one of these materials will probaly outlast most of us

I have an upcoming SLK320 detail this Saturday, so I will try the TW bar on it, with water as a lube (after wash, before drying). Let you know how it goes.

Don't worry about the auction expiring, quamen. The TW bars seem to be on eBay alot.

You can get TW clay bars at Ollie's Bargain Outlet in the Keyser Oaks Plaza in Scranton for $2 each.

Wow! That's cheap!

I wonder how good it is.

92MX83, did it indicate where the clay was made? USA or Japan?

Jon, how are they illegal? Can only one type be made in Japan?

Made in USA. Each bar is 180 grams.

Too bad I don't live in Scranton, PA, I guess. Maybe Ollie's should consider franchising themselves out to Hawaii...:p

C'mon, I can't be the first human to use this thing?

I was up there a month ago. I'll take a picture & post it, so you can make sure we're talking the same thing...

It looks a little porous, like it has bubbles in it. I haven't seen a non-sale one, so I don't know if that's normal. But as long as it's not contaminated, I can't see air bubbles making any difference. The bars are 180 grams. The packaging on these also says 1998. They also had 4oz bottles of paint cleaner and sealant for $1 each, I picked up $4 worth (2+2). I would have liked to see the Acid Rain Neutralizer, too.

Okay, the SLK320 got moved up, and I did it tonight.

It wasn't really a full detail; I just washed, clayed, wiped down the already-clean interior with a MF, and dressed the tires and Rain-Xed the windows. Then I did a quick application of UPP (it's a silver car).

Oh, back to the TW clay bar... I have to say that for the price I paid for it, it worked great! However, it seemed to be a bit stiffer than even the Clay Magic Blue bar I normally use, and WAY stiffer than the Mothers yellow clay bar, in terms of "kneadability" or "foldability". Also, when I folded the bar over after doing a couple of panels, the folded area seemed to sort of crack/crumble, if you can picture what I'm saying, as if the clay was a little dry. It didn't go to pieces or anything, but there were just all these little stress cracks that appeared on the folded place.

It seemed to pick up the embedded grit pretty well, but it left a few things in the paint (stains). Keep in mind, I used water from the hose as a lube. This may also be why there was a little sticky residue from the clay left around the creases in the panels, especially around the grille.

IMO, the Clay Magic, and even the Mothers (the only two I've used), works better, but you'll pay several times more for each bar. From a cost perspective, the TW clay bar seemed to produce acceptable results, but I might be hesitant to use it on dark colors as I still don't really know if it has a propensity to mar the paint (the silver paint on the SLK seemed okay, with a lot of pre-existing swirls that the client didn't want me to remove just yet).

Hope this helps. It's probably worth a try. If it does induce slight marring, hey, all the more reason to treat your car to a little Porter Cable luvin' afterward. :xyxthumbs

Thanks man, i guess the saying goes "if it seems to good to be true, it prolly is". I just ordered some Detail King clay this stuff rocks. 228 grams for 20 bucks, the best deal on the market as well, will never hurt the finish.!
