Turtle Wax Chrome Polish & Rust Remover Questions...

Is this the strongest stuff you can pick up locally to clean up old, neglected (oxidation, discoloration, rust) chrome surfaces?

Can it be used on and does it work well on aluminum as well?

Can you apply it by machine (polisher/sander rotary)?

How does it compare to Mag & Aluminum Polish for use on neglected surfaces?

Is this the product you are talking about?

I've used it on chrome and it didn't seem to be very exceptional..just helped to clean up the chrome and left it with some protection.

I haven't used it, but I can recommend the mother's chrome polish. Works awesome.

However, maybe you can try both and compare them. I know the mothers has no problem removing mild to medium stuff (water spots, little oxidation, etc).

I like the Mothers too, but if its really bad - which is what yours sound like - I'd go Megs NXT Metal Polysh (sic).

Its quite abrasive but breaks down to a nice finish and leaves good polymer protection. Just don't use it on black chrome...it'll scratch it. In that case use Mothers; its gentle enough yet strong enough for most chrome jobs.

Yes, that is the Turtle Wax product I'm talking about.

I'm trying to clean up and semi-restore an old motorcycle that has a lot of discoloration, oxidation, and rust on its metal surfaces, so I need something STRONG!

I had a very small amount of Mothers Mag & Aluminum on hand and on the spot I used it, it did remove some of the light stuff, but when I hit rough surface rust, the terry towels I were using started coming apart/shedding like crazy!

Can you apply these products by machine?

I don't care so much about ultimate show shine at the moment...just trying to get everything clean!

Yes you can apply it by machine but it uses more product.

The Mag and Aluminum Polish is for alloy wheels and aluminium...it won't do much more for chrome. If you want to try the Mothers or Megs Chrome polishes I'd highly recommend them. They're also good or polishing glass windscreens and the like.
