This is the first night of the Barret Jackson Scottsdale Auction. 24 hours of coverage now till Sunday.

The value of perfect detailing can be seen in the cars and the prices they fetch.

What the hell is the auctioneer actually saying?

I don't think even he knows. Just enough that every 5 words or so, you get the idea that the car is going the whatever amount of $.

Ha! I was watching and wanting to post about it regarding those awful detail jobs under those unforgiving lights. We complained last year as well. Its just terrible!

I've got it running in the background as I type this. A handful of the vehicles are beautifully detailed, but most still have swirls/spiderwebbing, etc. I especially hate seeing the plastic windows with the dull, hazed, swirled finish....under those harsh lights:scared

International CXT

Only watched for 5 mins and saw my choice ;)

I saw a tiny bit here and there but it appears it ended tonight, now at 11:00 Eastern :( I do see great coverage Fri-Sun though :)

The 427 Corvette needed to visit a DA didn't it?

It is amazing that some of these are actually not well presented...but man some are stunning.

I really like that 56 Victoria

I did see a nice red slant nose Porsche turbo earlier, paint looked very good from the angles shown. Sold for 39.5K

Well now that tonight's over I'd say my favorite was the 69 W32 442 Convertible.

Elephant Engine Ernie meets Doc Olds....as the ads of the day read.

What a beauty....but my God..$98k

Meet back here tomorrow?

The english (?) commentator (for speed channel) who is up on the podium looking at the car was just checking out a 1966 convertable corvette. Picks up the the photo album with his left hand - right hand is holding the mic. Has it opened in the middle and puts the album on the car standing up. It is a black car. The price at this point is $145000!

How can someone like him be that stupid? I don't expect him to be an Autopian, but doesn't he have some common sence? CHEESE & RICE!

Usually I view "tough guy" trucks, like the H1 and H2, as lame and sad.

But the International CXT is just so far over the top, I can't help but like it.

All those great cars and what do we focus on? How well they are detailed! :lol

The first few I saw were stunning..then there was a 55 (I think) T-Bird what was poorly presented...not Autopian in the least and the price reflected it.

Autopianism is critical to what they're doing....and the cars are awesome aren't they?

I also think it's very informative...to see what the market is doing.

I also find it helpful to use the TIVO so I can come and go...back up and buzz through a lot of cars in a short time.

Peter..who will be back in front of this..the Super Bowl of Car TV...tonight.

YES!! I was thinking the EXACT same thing as you.

This is too funny :p

What time is it on again tonight?

I have to say I'm not feeling that International in the least, not my thing. But that Air Ride F150 truck was sweet! All it needed was some real horsepower and some custom Recaros and it wouid be totally bad ***. Good deal at $51k.

ITs funny, some of those cars went on the block and I made comments about how bad the paint looked, or the swirls. She looked at me like I was nuts. I will say this, I think most were detailed very well, I just dont think some were Prepared (polished) very well. Detailing is more than just removing spiderwebs and scratches.

Watched for awhile last night. Agreed on the detailing jobs of some of these cars. Not everyone is as picky or partiulcar as we are though. Those lights are certainly tough on those cars; that's for sure.

For anyone who watched last night, they saw a perfect example - or a whole night of examples to be more specific- of just how the prices of these classic cars are going through the roof. I paid particular attention to a '69 Camaro convertible they had on there - since I own an original '68 Camaro convertible. Maybe some of you saw it, it was black with white stripes. It was a big block, but did not have the original motor in it. The engine compartment was beat (rusty master cylinder, rusty ac compresser, aftermarket intake, incorrect windsheild wiper motor, incorrect finish on brake booster, after market fuel filter) incorrect wheels, incorrect exhaust, no factory gauges - shall I go on??

Anyway, final auction price - $54,000

A great example of what is happening to the prices of these cars. One of the commentators put it perfectly; someone sees a car that meant something them earlier in thier life (had one in high school, parents owned one, first date car etc etc) and they HAVE to own it - no matter what.

Fun to watch other people spend thier money though that's for sure. Looking forward to what the weekend brings....
