I was contacted by a fellow Autopian (Maybatch2000) after he saw a C&B of mine of a Camry that I recently worked on. He just purchased this used Civic for his wife this week, and wanted it detailed inside and out.
When we first inspected the car, it didn't look too bad other than some deep scratches here and there. It was a mostly cloudly day, but the sun reflections seemed to show a finish with very light swirls. Because it was just purchased from a dealer however (no offense to dealers), I wanted to hit it with a Dawn wash and remove anything on the surface to see what was underneath. To my dismay, I found that somebody covered up some really bad rotary work along with a tremendous amount of swirls with some sort of filling glaze.
After about 13 hours of work in 90+ degree heat and high humidity, the car ended up looking really good (with the exception of the deep scratches that were too severe to completely correct). I used M105 on some of the more severe areas, and did all of my swirl removal and general clean up with Z-PC and an orange LC pad. Then it was topped off by PoliSeal followed by a coat of P21S 100%.
Interior:
vacuum
woolite/water on all surfaces
Folex on stains
Megs QID
OPP
Stoner's IG
Exterior:
Dawn wash
clay using ONR lube
M105 w/yellow 4" pad on PC in problem areas
Z-PC w/orange 5.5" lc pad on PC
PoliSeal w/green 5.5" lc pad on PC
Total time: 13 hours
Upon first inspection, it didn't look too bad (mostly cloudy day...sorry):
Your basic scratches:
Sun reflection "looked" pretty good:
And then the discovery after the Dawn wash:
Taping off section to test different combos to see what would work best:
Breaking out the big gun...4" pad with 105 on problem areas:
50/50:
And now for some afters:
