TSC17 detailed: Milano Red 05 Civic

I was contacted by a fellow Autopian (Maybatch2000) after he saw a C&B of mine of a Camry that I recently worked on. He just purchased this used Civic for his wife this week, and wanted it detailed inside and out.

When we first inspected the car, it didn't look too bad other than some deep scratches here and there. It was a mostly cloudly day, but the sun reflections seemed to show a finish with very light swirls. Because it was just purchased from a dealer however (no offense to dealers), I wanted to hit it with a Dawn wash and remove anything on the surface to see what was underneath. To my dismay, I found that somebody covered up some really bad rotary work along with a tremendous amount of swirls with some sort of filling glaze.

After about 13 hours of work in 90+ degree heat and high humidity, the car ended up looking really good (with the exception of the deep scratches that were too severe to completely correct). I used M105 on some of the more severe areas, and did all of my swirl removal and general clean up with Z-PC and an orange LC pad. Then it was topped off by PoliSeal followed by a coat of P21S 100%.

Interior:

vacuum

woolite/water on all surfaces

Folex on stains

Megs QID

OPP

Stoner's IG

Exterior:

Dawn wash

clay using ONR lube

M105 w/yellow 4" pad on PC in problem areas

Z-PC w/orange 5.5" lc pad on PC

PoliSeal w/green 5.5" lc pad on PC

Total time: 13 hours

Upon first inspection, it didn't look too bad (mostly cloudy day...sorry):

And now for the cool part...when he came to get his car, he drove his NSX (that we're talking about detailing next), and asked me if I wanted to take it for a drive. I've only met him once before, and he's asking me to drive his prized possession. What a great guy...thanks Vivek (maybatch2000). Hopefully we'll be seeing a C&B for this car soon:

Great write up and great turnaround!!!

The red tail lights just melt in with the paint!

Any comments on the P21s 100% ???

you gotta love the deep wet look of red or black, nice job! :up

Thanks. I agree they both look great. I had the same color in a RSX before my (now) black TL-S!

Nice work, fresh red is pretty! What did you do for the Civic and H badges for paint correction ?

If they're tight, I leave them exposed with the PC and go over them on the finishing stage when it's a lighter pad and polish.

Good jab mate! Love the NSX's as well and hope you get the opportunity to detail that soon.

Yeah, me too!

Thanks. It was a lot of work, but I thought it turned out really well. The 100% is awesome. On and off couldn't be easier, and it looks incredible on every color.

Nice work TSC! Yeah, having a rotary is pretty nice, hehe.

I think I'm going to order one this week. Now I'll just have a new learning curve...oh, and thanks!

Unfortunately both of my halogen spotlights burned out during the detail, so I couldn't get any good "after" shots for comparisons to the befores. I'm happy to report though that all of the previously installed holograms and swirls were removed.
