Trying to get in the professional detailing world

I'm currently going to school to be a mechanic actually graduating on the 25th of this month. But latey I have been thinking about detailing for a living instead. I have always been into taking a car that looks like crap and restoring it to it's glory. Seeing the face of some friends after they get there car from me just using my pc and some wolfgang products makes me happy as hell! I just would like to know how to get into a small shop to truly learn this trade? It seems like everyone wants a experancied detailer and doesn't want to teach. Any advice would help. Thanks and sorry for the long post

Welcome to AF. If your looking to learn the trade your in the right place. Theres enough great info here to make your head spin. Where are you from? There may be some classes fairly close to you.

Mike Phillips and Mel Craig are two that I know of but Im not really sure where Mel is located. His banners are on this site everywhere. Maybe try a google search in your area. Youtube is a great resource for Mike Phillips instructional videos. If you really want to learn, thats where Id start.

:welcome: To Autopia!

There's a wealth of knowledge here and a great source of superb products as well. Autopia members are very helpful and are ready to help answer any question you might have.

Remember; the only stupid question is the one that's not asked! :bigups

Best wishes for a successful endeavor.

There are many products and many sources. If you're just starting out I would suggest beginning with OTC products. They are easier to get, cost less, and for the most part perform just as well as anything you'll find at a premium price. But it's your money, and it's your choice of who gets to keep most of it. You or the suppliers. ;)

The professionals here will tell you that preparation and technique is 95% of the job.

Mike Phillips spent many years of his life pushing Meguiar's products. :)
