Trump 2016

Yeah, I don`t know from Mike Rowe, but IMO it was quite well thought-out. Especially liked the part where he said to READ stuff, even stuff that you might not agree with, and develop a genuine World View.
I think what he was actually getting at (and it`s what upsets me the most) is that more votes are cast based on the way a candidate makes the person feel than on the policy that candidate is for or against.

I am not discounting the importance of a candidate`s charisma, but it has always been my belief that policy should carry the most weight. I particularly think economic policy is one of the single most important factors and seems overlooked or not considered by "most" voters.

Mebbe, mebbe not. Economics are in the forefront of most peoples minds (imho) but most are short sighted ie. "free college", not realizing that soon hopefully they will be contributing to the tax rolls..... Not so free anymore when you`re carrying a bunch of other people.

Yeah they understand the economics that apply to them just fine, They vote for (insert any democrat here and now way to many so called republicans) and get lots free stuff. Over 50 percent of the population dont pay any or get more back as credits and assistance then they pay in.

Well, yeah...it`s always been that way as best I can tell. [A certain type of person] votes for the candidate that they "like" or "can related to" or some other nonsense.

IMO charisma is overrated in politicians, might be essential to get nominated/elected, but not of all that much use once in the job. It doesn`t sway (rational) people who genuinely disagree with you. And one person`s "wow, what a Charismatic Personality!" is another person`s "eh, just a Smooth Sociopath!" even if neither has a genuine basis for the opinion.

I can`t really rank the various Big Policies...Economics, sure...but Foreign Relations matter too, and then there`s whole SCOTUS nominations thing, which involves just *so* many factors. People with a limited understanding of these matters, guided by a limited World View, get to cast their votes just like the people who`ve studied the issues and actually *thought* about them in a meaningful way (not that those folks will always agree!).

What I don`t get is why people are surprised by any of these, uhm...revelations...about either candidate. I thought it was all common knowledge.

Well that`s the big issue. Short Term Economics. The cop out, "Well we`ll be dead by then" really irritates me and it seems to be used in various fashions a lot.

Accumulator,

All true. A lot of big ticket items on this election, not just economics. SCOTUS nominations are one factor in particular that charisma/personality ought to be thrown out the window.

The SCOTUS issue is the biggest one in my opinion. That`s something that could affect the country for decades regardless of whose POTUS or running Congress after this next term

Very true. Unfortunately, most people don`t think about SCOTUS, they think about their wallet at that moment.

Yes indeed, the whole SCOTUS thing barely gets mentioned, and when it does they seldom focus on the more critical issues related to it.

“The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.” Donald Trump.

Who even answers and does a phone poll anymore. I only have a cell phone and if the phone number isn`t stored I don`t answer. Only polls I would think about doing would be online email that I can do when I am bored sitting on the couch while the wife is watching one of her shows.
