Trump 2016

pwaug- Glad you posted that, but I thought *everybody* knew that Trump isn`t really all that successful as a business man but rather a short-term opportunist with a mediocre (at best) track record.

IMO the Trump U thing oughta disqualify him for consideration as POTUS just as [so many things] oughta disqualify Hillary. But try telling his (real) supporters that.

but but....the clintons literally have people killed.....and Bill goes to more or less a rape island.

But their supporters either don`t believe it or don`t care. The vast majority of Americans don`t. The tiny minority who do have already been labeled the "lunatic far-right" and anything they do is interpreted as more of that Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. I honestly believe that particular battle has already been lost. Raging against the tides and crying in one`s beer don`t accomplish anything so I`ve basically quit investing in how terrible the Clintons are; there`s just no payoff for me.

Even people who utterly vilify the Clintons will vote for her instead of Trump (or sit out the election- goodbye other GOP candidates) for the same sort of reasons that they voted against a ticket that included Palin. When guys like Buckley and O`Rourke won`t vote Republican, that`s a clue that the brand isn`t gonna sell this season.

Muslims don’t carry passports that say, “I am a Muslim.”

Heh heh, you mean that a Terrorist who intends to kill Infidels might even....LIE...to gain access to his targets?!?

So what happened to the rest of Atlantic City?

Oh Yeah. Bush`s fault......

The point is Trump made money (and bragged about it) on the backs of the small business owners who served his casinos and those who provided the loans for the casinos. Everyone, but Trump, was hurt financially yet it was his way of doing business.

So many of the things Trump boasts about are simply repulsive to me; I just don`t get his appeal.

(And, heh heh....speaking as somebody who taught at a State U and who *KNOWS* from PC, I`m tired of the argument that "he`s not PC and that`s all that matters!")

Has for trying to compare what Trump said to what Carter did…

“There is no legitimate comparison between Carter’s action and Trump’s proposal. Here’s why: During the hostage crisis the U.S. and Iran were in a state of something that amounted to a war, without the shooting. It is a common practice to expel citizens of a hostile country during wartime, but Carter’s actions didn’t do that. He merely ordered deported any Iranians whose visas were invalid and refused to issue new visas to Iranian citizens. Carter’s actions were taken against anyone holding an Iranian passport, not against Iranians who were Muslim. In addition, those who were deported were not here because of refugee status, and they were not deported back to a war zone.

ISIS and AQ affiliates have declared war on us. AND have fired shots on OUR soil..

While I am against a religious ban, banning people from certain countries is a viable possibility. I see more problems with that though since EU passports come right in.

So IMHO it is similar to what Carter did.

I`ve been saying for months, I totally understand the appeal of a "Trump candidate", but he is not the guy for the job. He`s a big middle finger to the establishment which I`m totally behind, but he has no substance. Fortunately for him there is a mass of ignorant people that are just so mad they don`t even care that he`s playing them

Or what the other possibility is

Trump`s popularity is a direct result of the "progressive/revisionist, grievance industry`s" point the finger at middle-class and upper middle-class, middle-aged whites for the past 10+ years. Guys like my step-dad, who have never been involved in politics, feel increasingly disenfranchised. They feel that the gov. and politicians are looking out for everyone but them. As a whole, their self-esteem/self-worth is at a low point. They can`t retire like they had planned and WORKED for, or feel that their kids will be worse off than they are. They`re pissed off and scared...a bad combo.

Being pissed off and scared makes people do the wrong thing for the wrong reason. This situation didn`t happen overnight. We have been losing middle class jobs for decades now. Voting for a blowhard that says the wrong things or really doesn`t say anything will get us in worse trouble. I guess building a wall around the US will stimulate jobs. Lol

Very over simplistic comment about building a wall.

My understanding is that the "wall" is meant to keep out "illegals" not people that go through the correct process of gaining entry.

I agree that it is a dangerous combo. The situation didn`t happen overnight. The loss of manufacturing jobs, the bedrock, of the middle class has been going on for sometime. There`s pleanty of blame to go around for that (one-sided union contracts, "free-trade" agreements, restrictive and overbearing regulations as well as a shift in coperate mentality) but has NOTHING to do with why Trump is electable now vs. 10yrs ago. Instead of making snarky remarks, talk to people with different viewpoint and listen to why they have them. That`s the only way a problem can be fixed.

The functional purpose of Anger is to fuel action. Effective action that corrects whatever`s wrong. People, uhm....misuse...anger far too often in a knee-jerk way.

Doing the Wrong Thing because you`re scared/angry/whatever-your-reason isn`t how mature people behave and I don`t understand why some people condone, or at least excuse, doing that.

I don`t have a link handy, but in yesterday`s paper there was an op-ed piece by a (!``` Hispanic!) Trump supporter who got badly beaten by anti-Trump demonstrators (badly enough to need hospital care) in Santa Clara CA. The local LEOs looked on, doing nothing, just watched while it happened. Gee, had it been Trump *supporters* who did the beating I suspect it would`ve all played out quite differently, especially in the media.

(Oh, BTW...Q: Why does anybody in California need to carry a handgun? A: Because a crowd of "Liberal" people who disagree with your politics might beat you to a pulp if you have no way to defend yourself against multiple assailants.)

So then mebbe 1-9 bullets might not be enough....

Especially the way most people (even most "I`ve been trained!" people) shoot!

Folks forget that it`s all about the unlikely situations that hardly ever come up.

But then people just accept being assaulted/killed with surprising frequency too....maybe try to call somebody to come help...

This needs to be highlighted and stressed for those that believe the police are the only source of their protection (not saying anyone here does)
