truck has leprosy! - is this correctable?

palomino

just like cellophane
this truck used to be my baby, but due to a new car + full-time school + part-time job, it has has been sitting, neglected, for a few months... poor thing. :(

a while back, I noticed discolored patches on the roof. a few weeks later, these patches began peeling. now I am seeing the same discoloration on the hood. is the hood doomed to begin peeling as well, or can this be corrected?

estimates for repainting the roof come in around $800.

the first 2 pics show the patches discoloration, the third pic shows the clear peeling away.

The roof looks like typical clear coat failure and if it started like the patches on your hood, you are going to have to do some more painting.

How old and how many miles on the vehicle?
GM did some warranty CC repair ar one time for vehicles that were less than 5 years old with less than 50,000 miles on them. I never quite figured out why the number of miles should make any difference, but that was part of their criteria.

oddly enough, this truck was repainted sort-of under warranty 5 years ago.

chrysler/dodge had a paint issue in the mid to late 90s that resulted in lifting paint on horizontal panels. my truck had been out of warranty & over 100k miles for a long time, so chrysler agreed to pay 50% of the repaint costs.

do you think the current problem is a result of a shoddy repaint job, or neglect?
