Trim restoring

Hi, I got some Poorboys Trim Restorer to try and clean up my trim a bit, it has polish residue, wax residue etc. I applied it, and immediately said wow! It worked excellent. 10 minutes later I looked at it, and it seemed like it had dried or something and It no longer looked nice. Am I missing something in the application? I applied it, let it sit for a few minutes, then buffed off with a MF towel. If this stuff doesnt take off polish residue, what does? Theres so many trim products I cant possibly buy them all :think: Thanks for any help
 
You have to keep applying it and the trim kind of sucks it up. Eventually it'll keep getting darker and darker.
 
alex you could also try some ISO alcohol and a stiff detail brush. Wet the brush with ISO and brush the trim and then stab directly at it, to get in the grain. Then wipe with a MF.

What he said, I did my buddy's Syclone cladding with it and 15 min later I was going nuts cause it had looked dried up and dissapeared. It needed about 3-4 coats until it stayed dark, figure its 15 years old and never been detailed it was dry as a bone.
 
You might want to try a product called Trim Restorer Trim Dye. It costs about $5 at CMA. It permanantly dyes the trim black. It works amazingly. None of the "keep applying until it works" stuff. One treatment and you are BLACK.

Yeah, I got some of that stuff, but to be honest I am to afraid to mess it up. What if you dont get an even coat, or get some where it shouldnt be?
 
It blends pretty nicely Alex, at 5 or 6 bucks its worth a shot! Do a small inconspicuous test spot first if your weary of using it. I think you will like it.



I used some of Josh's on my Fiance's trim and man it is BLACK now!

I personally wouldn't use isopropyl alcohol. It'll get rid of the wax, but it dries out the rubber and turns it gray. I don't have a recommendation though.
 
You could try OctaneGuy's new product, Black Wow. It took off the wax residue on my trim and definately darkened it up as well.
 
Hi Temp Prep Wash does a nice job of removing wax from mouldings. With Trim Restorer though, you often need multiple applications to keep it dark. It isn't so much a dressing as a restorative product.
 
I thought there was an old trick of using peanut butter to remove wax residue on grained black plastic. At least the vehicle will smell nice if it doesn't work. You put on the pb and work it in with an old toothbrush.

I just saw that on TOL's website, glad they finally list it on their website as it's extremely useful to have a Silicone/Adhesive remover!
 
mother's back to black works pretty good,and i like the workability of it. and in between washings i use interior cleaner on the trim,believe it or not works great to help maintain. i like griots,and it smells good.
