Trials and tribulations of a black car owner

Well folks, after having tried several different combinations on my black G35 Coupe, I have arrived at a place I would have never thought possible several months ago.

I began by using Zaino on my baby. I didn't really have anything against it, I just wanted to try something different. So, I switched to the Klasse twins. However, with no Z5 equivalent, I had to worry about swirls and such. So, I stripped the Klasse off and polished vigorously with 1ZPP. I thought everything was going to be fine. I applied the AIO and SG, and even topped it with Souveran. It looked great in the garage. When I got it out in the light, there were several spots/areas that appeared cloudy, or hazy. So, I went back and applied the 1ZPP even more vigorously with a PC, and a cutting pad. I let the stuff dry for several hours (probably 15) as I didn't have time to buff it off before then.

I then came to a crossroads. I knew that if I went back with the Klasse, I would encounter the same problem of swirling, with no way to remove it other than re-polish. So I started looking around my garage and came across my half-used bottle of NXT. I remembered back to the threads I had seen on here of it's mild cleaning abilities and thought, hey, maybe that will help in removing water spots and such.

So, I went ahead and NXT'd the whole thing, after having wiped off the 1ZPP. The results blew me away. The ease of use and wet-look, slick finish were second to none I had personally encountered. I know the durability of the NXT isn't as long as the Klasse or Zaino, but when it takes all of an hour at most to do the whole car, I don't mind doing it even twice a month.

As an added bonus, the NXT car wash is very nice. It has a very high lubricity and cleans very well. Plus, I can maintain it with the spray on booster wax. Call me crazy, but I really enjoy this new Meguiar's NXT.

if it works it works. alot of people on this forum have gotten great results with nxt. I love detailing g35's such clean panels and very easy to manuver around.

I don't understand .. Klasse is non - abrasive .. how could it be the cause unless its your application method/applicator. And I agree in the NXT.

I'm with you on this one, too. Whatever the reason, swirls were always an issue. I don't know if I just never got them out, or if my drying was the culprit, or what. I used microfiber all the way around.

More than just the swirls was the waterspots and etching, though. Those really bothered me, and the Klasse wouldn't get them out.

Klasse is a pure LSP. When I detect micromarring I must polish with 1z, use the alcohol mix for good measure, then reapply the Klasse twins again. The prep is key to the prestine look.

I also have a black G35 coupe. My only problem area is the rear trunk. I have micromarring from using the DACP with my pc. Working around those emblems is a real nightmare, because you have so little area to move your pad in. I've been trying a lot of stuff but the micromarring is still there. I have tried the high speed rotary with DACP with no luck. Tried #82 with the rotary and the pc still no luck(polishing pad and finishing pad). I've used P21s after all this, still no luck. I've tried Valugard polish and Detail Plus polish again with different pads again no luck. My last attempt will be 3M machine polish sometime this week.

It looks great until that evening sun and what looks nice glossy black, ends up looking hazy grey almost dusty. Well see what happens, perhaps I will just haveto live with it the way it is.

For those tight areas try 4" pads with the corresponding backing plates. i use these all the time for spot polishing :up

I think he is saying that Klasse AIO won't remove swirling. He's not saying that AIO is the source of swirls. It sounds like he needs and intermediate polishing step in between like #9 or SSR1.

I have found that NXT is an excellent LSp (Last Step polish). I have done recently 2 black vehicles using NXT by PC (after washing, claying, and Menzerna IP) just prior to PC'ing with AIO,which removes oils and such laid down by NXT.

This quick NXT step really adds to the final results. :xyxthumbs
