Hello, I am new to this forum. I have spent a few weeks viewing posts and searching for topics that interest me. I have always tried to maintain my cars, I would say I am a 'closet detailer' from way back, and I usually spend much more time on my cars to the point that I believe my neighbors think I'm alittle strange and my girlfriend thinks I love my car more than I do her. Anyway, I always have a fairly nice looking automobile. I don't believe I am a neophyte in this area, however I know there is always something new to learn. I use 3M products to machine buff out varnish and I am familiar with their useage. So, on to my first question:



I have perused the various opinions of Klasse vs. Zaino. For one that likes K there is someone who likes Z. Appears application/removal is about the same. The car I plan on doing is a maroon 1986 RX-7 with a new clearcoat and paint about 2 years ago. Here's my understanding of the application processes after a Dawn wash followed by claying with lubricant and a quick Zymol wash. I have very minor swirl marks so I don't believe I will use any 3M stuff. This is daily driver, parked beside quarry (ugh) much dust!



From there, with Klasse I would 2 coat AIO, 3-5 coat SG, top off with carnuba wax. Maintain with wash/wax.



For Zaino its Z7, Z2, Z5 with the ZFX additive and Z6 between the Z2/Z5 coats. Maintain with Z7/Z6.



There is a cost difference between them, however that is not my overriding concern. I would like some opinions on which product I should choose. It will be a few weeks until the weather improves here, I hope to begin by then. I have gone back and forth with my decision and any thoughts/insight are appreciated!

Anyhow, I have more experience with Zaino, but I have used both products.



If you are going the KLASSE route, some people have had trouble buff off SG. Make sure you follow all the tips and tricks and you should be ok. Also, with all that prepping you are doing on new paint, AIO really is not required. I would go right to SG, and layer away. Don't forget to buy a quality car wash and quick detailer to use with this system.



The zaino route is straight forward. I would start with Z5 to fill in any of the minor swirling you have, and then you can finish up with a coat of Z2. Some people prefer the look of Z5 over Z2 and use that product exclusively. The shine is very close in my opinion but can look a bit different on different color cars.......

Whichever you choose you probably will be quite satisfied. If you are addicted to or have a supply of unused carnuabas Klasse will probably be your best bet. Most Klasse users top this sealant to achieve the best finish. With Zaino not topper is needed... Awesome. Also Zaino is the only surface protectant that I have ever used that actually improves with time and washing...Amazing!!!
 
I've never used K before but Ive read a whole bunch about it and the big thing that always comes up is technique. Like DK said, if you don't pay attention to how you apply/remove then you may have trouble. Not to say that the process is difficult, you just need to have a little background info before you start. Of all the pics Ive seen, K looks the best on red and black cars..I mean really really good!!!

Also alot of people find it better to top K with a carnuba like Bliz or Souveran.



As a new Z user I can say it also requires you to follow some steps but like K, once you get the general idea it's not that difficult. From reading about people's experiences with K, I think Z may be a little easier to use right off the bat, but once you get the hang of it, Im sure its not a problem. Most people don't top Z with anything. They will both last for a long time and give a great shine..Can't go wrong with either!!

If you go the Klasse route I would be sure to use AIO. Being that your paint is 2 years old and your prep will be washing and claying I believe the non abrasive cleaner in AIO will help to remove contaminants that the wash and clay will not. Two coats of AIO would probably be one coat more than necessary but it won't hurt.



If you were using SMR or FI II and then washing I would say it is ok to go straight to SG. Even then however the AIO won't hurt. Not only is it a good paint cleaner but it leaves a nice shine and an optimal base layer prior to applying SG.



When I wanted to try a different polymer sealant ( I had been using Meguiar's #20) I decided to try Klasse before Zaino because it is available at my local autoparts store. Also I like that the Klasse system has only two components. Actually I think that you will be surprised just how good one layer of AIO looks all by itself. Add 3 layers of SG to that and the results will be stunning. :bounce
 
I am a big Klasse user and I would have to say it is the best for dark colored cars such as black and red. Dark colored cars require depth to them and Klasse provides this. On lighter colored cars, many have had success with Klasse. From what I've seen, Zaino happens to look the best on light colored cars such as silver and white. It provides reflectivity that can't be beat and the optical clarity on such cars is amazing. I don't personally use Zaino paint protection but from what I've seen I would recommend such a product for lighter colored cars.

Klasse also brings great reflectivity to white. Even one coat of AIO can deliver this amount of reflectivity. :bounce
 
Hello, and welcome to the forum!

Zaino and Klasse are both similar products, but they have different personalities. They are equally great.

For Klasse, proper application is the key to success. The instructions on the bottle are pretty general, so I suggest you to do a search on many of the different experiments and experiences Autopians had. Most people who had difficulty with the product haven’t read the tips here. Like any product, Klasse needs proper techniques, education, and surface prep.

When applying AIO, I completely soak my foam or microfiber applicator in water… and wring as much water as I can leaving it slightly damp. I dab a small amount of liquid onto the pad and spread it evenly over the surface with firm pressure. Then I remove it immediately with a dry MF towel.

For Klasse SG, I put a very small amount of the liquid onto a dry, foam applicator. I wipe a <em class='bbc'>very[/i] thin layer of SG onto the paint and let it dry for 20 minutes or so. You can leave it on the paint as long as you want, even overnight. Just make sure it stays dust-free. Then I grab two microfiber towels. I completely wet one MT, and wring as much water as I can. I use the damp one to remove the majority of the residue, and a dry one to get rid of any water the damp MF towel left behind. Its really easy that way.

Zaino is pretty much straightforward. There isn’t much to experiment with as the proven directions are already on the Zaino site. This is neither bad nor good; just personal preference. Mix up your Z5 with the ZFX and apply a few layers to fill in any swirls. Use Z6 between coats, and Z7 to wash. Then after the swirls are filled in, you can layer away with simply the Z2 and ZFX.

To remove, I only use soft Egyptian cotton towels, YoSteve or Neatitems microfiber towels, or old, but still very soft and clean beach towels.

As far as appearance is concerned, the general consensus here feels that Klasse provides excellent depth and wetness, whereas Zaino provides crisp reflections and optical clarity. Most people prefer Klasse on richer colors such as red or black, and Zaino on brighter and lighter colors.

But they both look great. Just different. Good luck!

Do a search on Blackfire, it looks interesting. It is new and combines the protection of sealants (Klasse & Zaino) with the wet depth look of carnuba. Supposed to be easy to apply also. Good luck...
 
Hi and thanks for all the replys. I still am undecided over which product to use, I have seen the BF product mentioned in a few posts but have not looked at it too much. I probably will since I have alittle time before I begin the project. I am wavering towards the Zaino because I don't know that I want to have to wax. I think I would rather just wash with the Z7 and follow up with the Z6 each week, and those appear to add/renew the finish. Anyway, I still have not completely made up my mind, in the meantime I will continue to peruse thru the posts on this forum. Thanks again, this is a very friendly forum, which contains a wealth of information.

I think that is a great choice and MM's burgundy Camaro WOW Zaino looks great on there Mike!

Just want to be clear about the waxing issue. Some people like the <strong class='bbc'>look[/b] of a wax topper on Klasse but by no means is it required. The vehicles that I've used Klasse on have not had wax toppers and are holding up better than any product I have previously used. I've experimented with using a wax topper on my trucks hood but ended up stripping the wax so I could go back to layering SG whenever I get the chance after washing.
 
I have used Klasse, Zaino, and Blackfire. You've probably read this before, but it really all depends on what kind of look you're looking for.



Klasse and Zaino are great long lasting products. Blackfire has a great shine. Personally, I prefer the deep, carnuba looking shine. Zaino is awesome, but for me to achieve the deep carnuba look, I would have to use Klasse and an optional carnuba topper (Blitz).



PS: I've noticed that Zaino has a deeper look on certain cars/paints, but not on others.
 
You really should clay AND polish the car. Regardless of the rest of the process, start with that and you can't go wrong.

PS: W/R/T Klasse A-I-O: One coat is enough. Subsequent coats remove prior coats.
 
Hi, Yes I have a lot of oak tree's and even though my truck is kept in the garage it still finds away to get these brown stain on it. Truch is white, I have clayed the finish 5 months ago when I bought it and put a coat of wax on, but I can see its time for more wax, but really having a time trying to get rid of the stains. I even sprayed some degreaser on a test spot thinking this stuff will desolve anything, it came off but no faster that scrubing with soap and water. I tried cleaner wax and it didn't touch it or the hard water spots.

Need Help!

will I need to clay again or is there something that will remove it faster.
