Training with Esoteric & others

Hi,

I've been looking into continuing education in the detailing field and was considering attending Todd Cooperider's class at Esoteric Auto Detail to familiarize myself with exotics and see what else I can pick up from him. Does anyone have feedback on how the after-training support is from Esoteric? I've heard great things about Renny's continuing support after the training has ended, however, Renny is much further from me than Esoteric. Any further input/experiences on training in general would be great. Thanks.

Mike

I would put my money hands down on NXT training. The guys who wrote the book on detailing such as Kevin Brown run it. As far as I am concerned all others have a revision of the original knowledge there.

Agreed .Renny is a great guy. Go with people who are fully experienced with what they teach. Not some overpriced course that is led by someone with just a few years of actual hands on experience. There's a lot more to learning this trade than just being taught how to make paint pretty and over-marketing yourself.

I'd agree with the others, go where the real experience and knowledge is, not someone who's only been detailing for about 6 years. I also wouldn't get too caught up with the type of car. Paint is paint and people get too caught up with the whole exotic thing, but knowing how to adjust for substraite and panel shape is important.

Like Rasky said the exotic specific thing is bullshit. Gloth is gloth. If you want to base your detailing career on bullshit and hype, be my guest. I highly recommend training like NXT and Kevin Brown aka buffdaddy.com go to his site and start reading.

The video link Rasky (Chad) posted IS the real deal. You can market yourself great but if you can't produce you become nonsense in the industry.
It may work for a while but in the end you may fail. It is truly about foundation.

Okay, when's the next class being held?

I'm very interested in NXT after doing some more research. Thank you all for your input.

Well, that would be the only down side of NXTi is that they aren't offered very often, as it's not all about making money for them. It's definitely worth the wait though!

I would suggest contacting Kevin Brown and let him know your interested in taking his class. If he gets enough inquires/requests I'm sure they will find a way to hold another one.

There is much that has NOT been said lol…………….., the things I could add but will not. You want to really invest in yourself move past the hype and concentrate on superior skill set first then add the marketing and pic taking stuff.

Customers want solutions to problems, if you cannot do this for them then they will look elsewhere. If you were willing to spend on the appearance of something look first at who produces the best work and who they associate with with proven results over many years.

Three days with Mr KBM will have you confused at first if you are not experienced, but a foundation to build on is needed and he can provide that.

Is there any particular reason to not go with Todd from Esoteric Detail?

Maybe I miss some things from the years I was away ... but back in the days, Todd has been awesome with me (especially since I am in Canada and communication is not that easy beside chatting on forum).

He even purchased some 'exclusive' US products and shipped them to me without asking anything in return.

There are classes available from far more experienced professionals out there, many at a fraction of the cost....do you need more reason than that?

Re-read the posts from Bryan, Bob, David and Chad.....and then try to read between the lines.   ;)

Wow so much hate about Todd ... he must has done something bad to the folks here on autopia.

You guys must have your personal reason to react like this against Todd I guess.

Don't get me wrong, I am not judging anyone here ... I know all of you, I've been here for a while (even If I don't post much), I know what everyone is capable of (Bob, Chad, Bryan, David), but Todd is capable of achieving the same kind of quality work IMO.

He might have not as much experience than some experienced people of the detailing industry, but he definitely can achieve top notch results.

It's not like if he was a scammer or something.

I am NO trainer, I am a detailer, I told Mike that. I did offer for him to come by and we can work on some paint.

He came down for a couple of hours. We hung out and played with some paint. We corrected out 3000 grit sanding marks with M205, very cool, thanks Kevin Brown! Then we corrected some DA haze with HD polish, and then applied some coatings. We even went as far as leaving high spots in a couple of coatings -and fixed those.

Mike isn't a brand new detailer, he has been doing this for a couple of years in a more volume based manor.  He knows how to correct paint, and knows what needs to get done to do it the proper way.

We chatted, and there was no way I would charge him, it wasn't a class, just for us to hang out and play with some paint. I am sure Mike and I will be in contact for years to come, if it be giving me a hand, or helping him out on some cool cars.

Mike thanks for coming down, hope I showed you some stuff! Get to the next NXT! Kevin, Jason, Michael, and the others can't be beat!!

Thanks for the kind words and the help Greg!

I definitely learned a thing or two; I would have never guessed that M205 could provide so much correction in such a short amount of time while leaving a pretty refined finish, we worked with a few coatings, etc etc.

I think it goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway: Greg is definitely a stand up guy and a positive reflection of Autopia as a community. It really helps to receive some guidance from an established, highly capable detailer who is generous with his knowledge, time and even products (thanks for the samples!).

This is what makes Autopia great, for that I thank you!
