TR-3 resin glaze question

Hey guys, I've been checking this site for a while, and finally decided to register, so I can start posting questions. I feel confident about the talent that we have here, that I'm looking forward to learn about new products, and about the stuff the pros use! :)

My question is about a product called TR-3 Resin Glaze.
I bought a can of this to use on my DD as the paint was pretty much beat-up, and really didn't care much about it.
Now, I'm ready to detail my Corvette (Torch Red) for the first time this year, and I was wondering if this stuff is safe to use as a cleaner, or pre-wax cleaner.

I've got some Wolfgang Deep Gloss Polish, and a bottle of Rejex, and I'm wondering if TR-3 is something I want to use on my Z06 Corvette as a paint prep.

TR-3 now has another version for clearcoat paints. That's why I'm doubtful if the regular stuff I've got is safe.
This is what I got...

First let me say that I have never used this. I remember seeing this stuff around at least 15 years ago. I don't see a lot being said about it on any of the detailing sites. This would probably be my first clue that the product isn't someones first choice. That being said you might do a search on DC and other first rate sites and see what you can find. As with any one step product there are probably mult-step processes that will yield a better finished product. I would also think that unless the product has undergone serious upgrades through out the years that because of technical advantages and newer formulas that there are other commercial or boutique type products that will give you better results. You've got a nice car treat it the way it deserves to be treated.

By the way, where did you find this? It's been a long time since I've seen it. I think it used to be part of Blue Coral's line. My gut tells me this product is along the lines of Nu-Finish.

I just did a quick web search on this product and found an interesting side note on Free Edgar. Apparently the company that made this product went bankrupt and assesta were sold in 1992. I'm unclear as to whether they were picked up and production resumed.

I'm curious how long you've had this stuff. The way you phrase your post it sounds like it's been sitting in your garage for a while.

If it's brand new then I'm virtually positive it's safe for clear coats. However, like the last post says there are probably better products available.

Actually, prior to posting my question here, I did a little google search, and found a lot of places selling it, and touting this product as a big seller. That's where I also found another one with Green label, as opposed to blue for Clear Coat applications.
I believe I picked this thing up at Checkers Autoparts -if memory serves me right- over a year ago.

Back in the 80's I used TR3 all the time its still on the market....it has a cleaner in it so its not something that can be used for layering....It will cut anything or there about on the surface of the paint...I used it to remove oxidation on single stage way back...I also think that it has fillers so you can mask the swirls....for your Vette use the WG stuff or your higher end stuff that you have instead and use up what you have left of the TR3 on your DD...
also it is clear coat safe so no worries there as for how long it will last can't remember but its pretty durable from what I remember...again that was the 80's and we all know what happened int he 80's.....LOL

that's my .02

Yeah i've used that stuff about 5 years, its safe for clear. Like a few said use the good stuff for your vette.

Great guys!
Well, I think I'm going to try it. My intended purpose for this stuff is to strip my car off any contamination, wax residue, so that it will be nice and clean to lay sealant on it.
BTW, as I mentioned above, I have some Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant, and a bottle of RejeX. I want to do is split my car down the middle, and apply WG on one side, and RejeX on the other half. I want to test both products side-by-side for 3-4 weeks for durabilty, shine, gloss, protection, and beading pattern.
I know they may both be close to each other in shine, and gloss. Whichever I decide is best for me, I'll stick with it, and get me some Collinite 845, a FK-425 QD, and call it good.

Oh, I will make sure I post some pics.

Thats like "polyglycoat". Who remembers that?

I think Goose Z06 is playing with us....

That was offered by dealership like Perma Plate it was great for about 4 years then started peeling off the car...I remember it well

I've seen it around as recently as this year. (In Checker, I think.)
I actually used some within the last 2 years, and didn't think it was entirely crappy. Tended to be a "bright" shine, though. Didn't stain trim, though! :D
