Toyota's been asking for trouble like this for the last ten to twelve years. They got a lot of praise heaped on them for redesigning cars from the ground up, and going from concept-to-production in around three years, but those of us who have worked in the auto industry, especially in the Tier One and Tier Two auto parts sector, openly questioned whether they could pull it off without big quality problems, and we got shouted down by some Toyota fans for even questioning the "almighty" Toyota. Well, it looks like there some credibility in questioning how fast they, Toyota, tried to move.JuneBug said:I'm thankful my wife's Highlander isn't in the recall! Here's my take on Toyota, they make good cars but they rushed to get to be #1 and cut corners with quality. You can get a nice car but you have to get the "Limited" version to get a nice interior, I know - had a Rav4 Sport with 4x4 and V6, great drive train, Dollar Tree interior.
I'm looking at Ford for my next car - actually - my daughter's car.
* A former Toyota lawyer who handled safety litigation has sued the automaker, accusing it of engaging in a "calculated conspiracy to prevent the disclosure of damaging evidence" as part of a scheme to "prevent evidence of its vehicles' structural shortcomings from becoming known" to plaintiffs lawyers, courts, NHTSA and the public.
As a result, plaintiffs attorneys are considering reopening dozens of product-liability suits against the automaker.

I always though Toyota had nice interiors but this thing had more cheap plastic than my old 94 Sonoma and it road like crap too. It made me appreciate our Fusion much more.
WAS said:I rented a Matrix on 2 occasions this past year and had the same experience. Cheap interiors, wasn't very peppy for a 4 cyclinder, the doors felt like they were cardboard thin. My old 1996 Cavalier Z24 felt like more of a car than that thing. Not to mention it's not a cheap car to buy, not at all.

Len_A said:Some of the thing I learned, before I lost my job over two years ago, as an auto supplier sales rep, were astounding, like Toyota suppliers running prototype parts off the hard production tooling, and then sending in die repairmen to make modifications after the parts were tested. Hard tooling is usually ordered after most of the prototyping is finished, not simultaneously with finalizing the vehicle’s finished design. Too many short cuts in an balls-out effort to beat the competition.
I'll stick with my Ford products, thank you.
