that's too bad for toyota, i'm sure they are going to lose some sales here and there. my dad has a 07' camry and i have to tell you it's one of the biggest dissappointments in a car purchase he has made (should of gotten an Accord, which was his other option and he mentioned it as well) and i wish he would get rid of it. the interior is so bland, cheap looking, amongst a few other things. the only toyota i'm looking forward to seeing come out so far, is the new FT-86 pictured below...

I used to be a Toyota fan until I rented one down in Florida. Brand new too. It was just a Matrix but it was a huge pile of junk. I always though Toyota had nice interiors but this thing had more cheap plastic than my old 94 Sonoma and it road like crap too. It made me appreciate our Fusion much more.

I'm thankful my wife's Highlander isn't in the recall! Here's my take on Toyota, they make good cars but they rushed to get to be #1 and cut corners with quality. You can get a nice car but you have to get the "Limited" version to get a nice interior, I know - had a Rav4 Sport with 4x4 and V6, great drive train, Dollar Tree interior.

Toyota's been asking for trouble like this for the last ten to twelve years. They got a lot of praise heaped on them for redesigning cars from the ground up, and going from concept-to-production in around three years, but those of us who have worked in the auto industry, especially in the Tier One and Tier Two auto parts sector, openly questioned whether they could pull it off without big quality problems, and we got shouted down by some Toyota fans for even questioning the "almighty" Toyota. I know how to put my car in neutral so I'm good with the sticking accelerator issue, however, Toyota, please bring back fun to drive cars. All of your lines are boring as hell, in the looks department and from the drivers seat.

I rented a Matrix on 2 occasions this past year and had the same experience. Cheap interiors, wasn't very peppy for a 4 cyclinder, the doors felt like they were cardboard thin. My old 1996 Cavalier Z24 felt like more of a car than that thing. Not to mention it's not a cheap car to buy, not at all.

I have to agree that for the price the lower end Toyotas are really not worth the aggravation. They really are irritating. Stepped into my buddies low end 2010 Honda Accord and was totally impressed. Stepped into a Ford Fusion at a dealer and if it wasn't for the Ford badge on the steering wheel I wouldn't have believed it!! This ain't your 90's Ford anymore lol

It does take cooperation from the designer, manufacturing engineer, and the molder to pull it off. In many eng companies (I am think American companies) there is a lack of cooperation between the various groups. It is another culture thing. It is more toss it over the wall mentality.
It also shows they are not trying to get it right the first time...let's practice once because we have little confidence.

Ford is doing a fantastic job with interiors lately. They aren't perfect, but they look very nice for their price point.
