Toxic Bird Crap

A couple od weeks ago while in the garage I noticed my Max had a fresh bird dropping. I grabbed the Final Isp. and cleaned it off. However I noticed the 'outline' of the dropping was still visible so I applied a little AIO and problem solved.

This past weekend I had a couple of droppings that had sat for a while. After washing I again applied some AIO to clean off the outline but I could not get it all off.

Has it etched my Clear Coat that quickly ? Is there another product I should try ?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Try clay...

Alot of people say even a few hours and it can etch the surface of your clear coat to the point that you'll need to use all kinds of polishes but hopefully that didn't happen. I have cleaned bird crap from cars and looked at the clear coat and did not see any damage.... I don't know though, people just don't pull this stuff out of their arse.

So try the clay and get back to us and we'll pick it up from there.

is VERY acidic, and should ideally be treated immediately after it hits your paint. If left for a while, it can cause etching. Clay can remove some of it in many cases, if the stain is light. But for heavier etching, I'd suggest a paint cleaner like 3M SMR or Meguiar's Body Scrub (or similar cleaner).

I'd try a paint cleaner. It's saved me a number of times with stuff I thought wouldn't come out.

I used Medallion Paint Cleaner and it seems to work a bit better than the Deep Crystal Cleaner.

I've found paint cleaners to be a fairly decent *alternative* to a claybar. Not a substitute, but alternative.

If you are squeemish with clay or find it cumbersome, the paint cleaner does do an admirable job of removing bonded contaminants and minor etching.

When Ron was here, he would remind us that while QD can remove the bird crap, it doesn't completely neutralize the acids. With the acids still present, it may slowly etch through the clear. Hurry to Radioshack and go get a lighted 20x magnifier! ;)

He suggested soaking the infected areas with alcohol after QD’ing to fully neutralize the bird dropping acids. Now I always carry Eagle One 20/20 glass cleaner (mostly alcohol) along with me.

isn't acid water soluble? a lot of water (perhaps with some baking soda for neutralization) should do a lot

if not, get an acid neutralizer from a chemical company, and if you're worried about harshness, get the one for eyes

Damn, he's still alive! I'll have to change that...

I recently installed a APDS to prevent bird bombs, as well as a tachyon detection grid in case any of them were using stealth technology. The Anti-Projective Defense System seems quite effective in vaporizing any bird bombs before they have the chance to touch the SG coating my paint surface.

One can never be too careful, you know.

Arterion,

Don't forget the NGRG, negative gamma ray generator. It creates a negative ion field which repels all postively charged particles..(dust, road salt, mud, bugs.)

I had to buy a second battery for mine!

Well, I clayed and tried 3 coats of of Meg. Med. Paint Cleaner, then AIO And maybe ..maybe removed 10-20 %. I maybe asking for too much but I was hoping 5 coats of SG with frequent Sonus QD's would have prevented this.

You might get some rubbing compound, and try that. Something with some mild abrasives. If that doesn't do it, looks like you'll need to wetsand the spot. I don't think it would've etched all the way through the clearcoat in that short legnth of time.
