Towels. How do you organze (clean and used)?

I hate to get anal about the towel issue but I just spent a frustrating drive wondering what the heck happened that left this hazy crap on the windshield I just cleaned. Had to do it in a shadow before I left the house and when I got into the sun this stuff was spotted all over the glass. And if there's anything I hate the most - it's dirty glass.



So I figured that I must have used a towel that had some kind of residue on it from something else.



I did a QD with the MF towel in my trunk for that purpose. Is that towel shot now until it gets washed, or can I keep doing QD's with it for a while?



Do y'all wash your MF towel after one use?



Do you wash them in batches, depending on what they were used for?



And I keep a few in my trunk. Do I need to put them in baggies that are marked "glass", "interiour", "QD", etc ? God help me if I have to get organzed to that level - I have a hard enough time finding the keyboard on my cluttered desk some mornings..



Short of washing a towel every time you touch it, how do you keep these things organzied.. or do you mix applications and have no problems?
 
1. I wash them when they're dirty.



2. I sort towels prior to washing. MF with MF, cotton with cotton.



3. I keep MF's in ziploc baggies. Only one that is separate is the glass cleaning MF.



4. After you've used a towel for something like QDing, its best to keep using as such to avoid contamination elsewhere. Can be tricky to do sometimes, especially if all your towels look alike.



5. I use my MF's for all sorts of purposes and do not discriminate except for glass.
 
I use a laundry marker and use each one for it's own specific purpose, IE: Wax, Polish, Glass, Leather, Molding etc. I use seperate cheap terrycloth on the wheels and toss them when dirty.
 
I am pretty new to detailing, but I keep all of my MF towels in a plastic bag and my travel MF in a Ziplock. Because they are so "grippy," they really shouldn't touch anything else, IMHO. I wash on most-gentle cycle with just a little mild detergent (never use fabric softener or bleach) and hang dry after each use - no biggie, because they dry so fast. I never use my drying MF for buffing any products - otherwise I do not keep track of usage.

I only have 6 pcs of MF towels (Viper).



2 pcs of MFT are always on my SUV for QD-ing purposes.



2 pcs of MFT are on stand-by (house) to replace my 2 pcs of MFT on my SUV once it is soiled.



2 pcs of MFT are reserved for my car wash time which is usually every weekend.



My 6 pcs of MFT are being used so often that it rarely sits on my drawer :p



I use Klasse Twins. I have 2 pcs of CMA's POwer Scruber (Blue) MF Towel which I use to remove Klasse AIO and SG residue.



As for my Glass. I have 4 pcs of Waffle Weave Towels (A generic brand which I got directly from Korea) - Works great!!!
 
Where the heck to you get Ziplocks big enough for MF's? Mine came in one from JTInt, but I've never been able to find them, not even at Sams.

What?! Glad Jumbo Freezer bags! Every supermarket has them! Or, what I do is store them in one of those three tier plastic drawer storage units from Target for $20.



Crapy ones go in the bottom drawer (KMart), middle of the road ones go in the second drawer (PakShak) and the best ones go in the top drawer (Magic Towel).



I wash after every use. MF's washed with MF's, cotton washed with cotton. Really gunked up towels - ususally the cotton, go into the trash. I dry them together on low heat and then run on the air dry cycle for 15 minutes. They poof up with the cool air circulation.
 
i use rubber maid containers the storage ones for like 5 bucks at target... CLean MF container Clean Cotton container and have 2 cheap laundary baskets also from target for the drity ones
 
I keep my towels in 15qt clear Sterilite (#1754) storage boxes. They're 7" tall so they stack two to a shelf in my garage.

They can hold:

24 16x16 MFs

or 6 BBTs

or 20 14x17 cotton towels

or 30 14x14 Walmart MFs

or 8 6" foam pads

or 6 7.5" foam pads

or even my PC and backing plates.



As I use towels I toss them into a rubbermaid 18gal. hopper. If they're wet, I hang them on a rack for a day or two before dropping them in the hopper. If I start to run low on towels, I open the hopper and wash them until their all clean and start again.

Wierd that they don't have them at a Sam's Club ... You should be able to get them at any big grocery store, though. I am talking about 11x11" (1 gallon), heavy plastic, 'freezer bag,' with interlocking top closure. Great for your 'travel' MF.
 
My MF towels are stored in the top black bin. The WW drying towels and mitts, etc are stored in the lower bin. I use the hamper for dirty towels.



I have many colors of towels and keep them seperate for the job "at hand" but don't use them exclusively for anything in particular. The only exception is my gold "glass only" mf.



I have enough towels on hand that I don't get them very dirty. I cast them aside quickly and wash them often.

I keep my MFs rolled up in large Ziploc Slideloc freezer bags with the air squeezed out of them (this really helps), and then keep those in a big plastic pail.



Dirty MFs I just throw into a plastic grocery bag hanging somewhere until it's washing time. :p



As mentioned by others, my glass MFs are always separate from everything else BTW.

I use those same rubber-maid bins for my cloths. The hamper for the dirty ones is a nice idea. I throw my dirty towels on a corner of my bench until I can take them to the laundry room.



Brad, after your towels are washed and dried do you fold them and then put them in the bin or do you just toss them in unfolded?
