towels got a dose of fabric softner!?!

There is no cure!
left my towels and pads soaking overnight to help loosen the residues and was planning on giving em a washing the next morning. my sister saw them there and figured shes put em in the washer for me. she used fabric softner! now my towels feel very diff and smell like downy. wha can i do to bring em back. i had practically had my whole stash of towels there soaking.

i was thinking vinegar but not sure if that'll help much on the softner!

either way ima give it a try, couldnt hurt.

let me know wha u guys suggest, please. without microfibers i feel ALONE :(

lol, no but i really feel bad about thinking that 150dollars worth of premium towels would be gone to waste
 
Do something crazy by boiling em for 10 minutes. It's been known that numerous Korean manufacturers promote boiling for a few minutes due to transportation / chemicals / etc. Just be careful!
 
Vinegar or a microfiber wash should take care of the softener. It may take several washings, however.
 
you can give both a try,
Boil them for a few minutes and then wash them normally using vinegar when the rinse cycle comes.

Let us know how you make out.

Your post just goes to prove that fabric softener isn't really a softener but a coating of silcone on your towels.

Just wash them using HOT water and liquid detergent a couple of times. Don't use too much soap either.

Don't forget to use a tablespoon of white vinegar per towel and you should be fine.
 
boiled them for about 15 minutes. when i was done i saw that at the top of the boiliung water it had a whitish film over it. gave em a wash after and put in a cup of distilled vinegar. towels feel and look like new. this process even took out some of the dirt stains some of the towels had. from now on i will probably use half a cup of vinegar when i wash my batch of towels

Is the vinegar supposed to be used in the wash or rinse cycle?

I put my vinegar in the clorox cup thing and something just throw in it during the wash .
 
my washer has some little hole that says fabric softner, and another for detergent. i put the vinegar in the fabric softner hole. i assume it adds it in the rinse cycle.

Rinse cycle, it helps the fibers release extra detergent and other baddies coating them. Putting it in the wash serves no purpose.
 
How many got ruined? I would keep them in reserve unless after the boiling you are 100% sure they feel like before.

Probably best to buy new ones, esp. if you use them to work on quality autos. Unless the ones your sis put in the wash were all recently purchased, you are gonna at some point replace them and use the older ones for more menial/dirtier tasks anyway.

If they don't come back all the way, buy a few new ones. It's a small expense to be safe.
 
If you throw a little vinegar in the wash cycle it actually helps to soften the water a good bit, this means that you can use less detergent to get the same cleaning power. Vinegar in the rinse cycle will then help to soften the rinse water, making the detergent rinse away more easily. If you have a water softener in your house the vinegar won't do a whole lot.
