towels for glass

who recomends what? any specific microfiber ones or just any microfiber? any other non microfiber recomendations?

I use PB velvet smooth blue MF towels and they seem to do a great job....I also use Stoners invisible glass cleaner...although that's not what you asked.

I use the blue ones from Sams Club. They are cheap and decent enough to use on the windows but not the paint (personal opinion). Those and Invisible Glass here too.

NO MF towel will scratch the glass they are to soft...a cheaper towel will not have the pickup that a higher quality will have....they don't absorb as well and from that they do not clean as well...I have found with MF towels buy the good ones and then take care of them they will last a long time

will a "cheaper" micro towel scratch the glass?
Not likely.
I also like PB's glass towel.
For OTC, I've found the Viking glass towels to work well. They come in a 2 pack.
I've found that the lower nap towels seem to work better than thicker ones for the final wipes. They also get dirtied up fast, so I tend to use them for final wipes and use a different cloth to get the bulk of the grunge off first.
For non-microfiber towels, "huck" or surgical towels work well. They are lintless 100% cotton towels. (Usually blue)

Biggest problem I have with towels and glass is linting. The DF Towel seems to lint the least of all the ones I have.

Question about the PB Velvet Smooth Towel. Is it like the cloths that you can by in optical stores for sunglasses just bigger?

Believe it or not, I have been having extremely good luck with the cheap Wal-Mart waffle-weaves that were posted on here a couple weeks ago. Two in a pack for three bucks or so. After the first couple of washes, I get no linting to speak of. So far, they are working out to be the best glass cleaning towel I have.

I tried newspaper a few months ago, and I'll continue using them, as I've found a technique that works really well...
I liberally spray the window with glass cleaner (original Windex works great), and if I can, let it sit for a minute (in the shade of course!). Then I'll give the window a few more squirts. Then, with a nice sized, balled up and crumpled newspaper, start wiping. I generally go in a circular fashion, and go over and over the window, like I'm polishing, keeping the same side of the newspaper on the glass (I don't rotate the paper!)...just keep polishing, being careful not to tear all the way thru the paper...
Keep this up until the window is practically dry, and viola! Nice, clean glass!

If you mean the ones that are like silk, then no. The PB Velvet Smooth has some nap to it, but not like "typical" MF's. Kinda like Velvet! :D
Here's a pic of it, in case you hadn't seen one before:

This is an effect way to clean glass its also a messy one.....the ink from the newspaper is what I hate.....If I could put a good quality MF towel and some Stoner Invisible glass cleaner in your hands....the only thing you would use newspaper for is reading

Plus Windex has ammonia in it as well which is bad for tint correct? It may work decent on your own cars but what would a customer think if you used old newspaper to clean their windows?

Bud

Never gave that any thought but your right ammonia will cloud the tint big time on some cars....

My current favorite is to use waffle weave microfibers for cleaning glass. My personal favorite is the Cobra WW Glass Towel. It really does a great job absorbing excess product and also scrubbing the window clean.

Once upon a time I used old newspaper. However, the ink would get all over my hands. It's an effective method, but it's also REALLY messy. I would hate for the ink to transfer from my hands to something on the interior that I may have touched.

I've also tried various cotton glass cleaning towels and the cheap MFs from wharehouse clubs. I wasn't totally satisfied with the effectiveness of either, but they were both decent. When I run out of glass MFs I usually pick up my old green, cotton glass towels that I got from Pep Boys. They work really well. They have no knap so they don't really lint, but they don't absorb as well as my WW MFs. So, they stay at the back of the shelf, but they're a good back up.
