TORQ 10FX vs MT300 (and GG6)

I'm a newbie almost ready to order my first DA polisher, and I narrowed down my choices in another thread to the GG6 vs the MT300, and I decided I was going to go with the MT300 to create a complete Meguiar's system to start with. Having said that, one other DA polisher is in the general group of 8mm throw DA polishers: the TORQ 10FX.

I know Chemical Guys "makes" and markets the 10FX, and it's a machine with digital-only controls for about $20 less than the MT300. But it doesn't seem to get any love on the forums that I've searched. I'm curious to know why that is, and if it's justified. Is it just because people don't like Chemical Guys' style of advertising (scantily-clad women holding their products on YouTube)? Or is there genuinely a problem (or problems) with the product? I have read many people don't like the placement of the buttons (too easy to bump them while in use), and the cord is too slick and rolls off your shoulder while working. Are those the only complaints that turn people off about the design?!?

I'm still most interested in the MT300, but in fairness before I officially bite on a machine, I'd like to know what the story is on the TORQ 10FX. Can anyone comment on it and/or compare it to the MT300 (or GG6)? Thanks as always! :)

I personally couldn't get past the digital switch. On top of that the build quality was really poor IMO. It is an equally capable tool, but I feel the MT300 and the GG6 are just much better tools.

Torq tool...

Wow. Are those your pics Rasky? Or did you find them online? The build quality does look pretty poor based on those pics. :o

I guess that rules out the 10FX. Thanks for the great info!

By the way, do you have any info on the build quality of the MT300? Figured I'd ask..

A friend of mine has the tool and let me try it out, pics are from him. I do have the MT300 but haven't opened that one up yet, nor have a used it a whole lot. Holding and comparing them side by side it's pretty night and day though. The MT300 body is slimmer than the old G110v2 and it's lighter as well. I like it a lot, but will rarely use it because of my large throw tools.

Build quality aside the digital switch on the Torq just doesn't make sense to me. Every time you turned it off and back on you had to hit the + to get back up to the speed setting you wanted. Give it a normal switch, tighten up on the QC and it would probably be a decent machine.

Just my $02

I'm in the same boat as you SwedishRider, did you end up going with the MT300? I'm on the fence about 10fx and the MT300, based on the research I've done I don't think either will be a "bad" choice, but I'm looking to make a good choice.

No, I ended up getting a spectacular deal on a GG6, so I bit for it. My advice would be to look at the GG6 at Advance Auto Parts online, and then search for the current coupon codes available for AAP purchases. Then, PM Vega@Autopia (Ray) here on the forum, who will beat their lowest price. You'll get the best deal that way.

I do like the MT300, but I bought a GG6 for less than half the price of an MT300. That's just way too good to pass up. Good luck! :)
