Topping Blackfire

I just put two coats of Blackfire on my car (Nighthawk Black Pearl Acura TL-S) today and I'm planning on putting two or three more coats tomorrow. I'm debating on whether I should top it off with a carnauba or not. If I do, it will probably be S100 or Meguiar's #26, but I'll entertain any and all opinions.:)

Hmmmm...I hate to be the first to tell you, but the second coat you put on, probably removed or thinned the first coat. At best, you have 1 even coat. You REALLY need to let the product cure before you can consider adding additional layers. 24 hrs is advised.

How did you like the results, ease of use...?

Dont you dare throw that booster wax on BF !!

I put on a second coat on after I buffed off the first coat because according to CMA there is no cure time for Blackfire. You can put on another coat on right afterwards according to their instructions.

I've used Blackfire before, but this time it was harder to buff because I couldn't get the coat thin enough. I applied in straight lines this time as opposed to circular last time. It was easier getting a thin coat on with circular motions, but I just polished my car and I don't want to take a chance at reintroducing swirl marks. I noticed I had a much harder time buffing the areas where I had stopped and went back the other direction during application. The residue was thicker in those spots.

I think I'll try applying with my PC today and see if that will help. I've had pretty good luck applying liquid wax with it, but I haven't tried it with Blackfire, which seems to be a lot less viscous.

just for kicks you could try NXT booster wax if you have some-then you could still top with a carnauba if you want too

Interesting..... I picked up a bottle of it for $1 at Pep Boys a couple of weeks ago and I've been dying to try it out, but not on my car. My test bed is my wife's car or my mom's:D

I suspect I might have wasted the $1 because I always top NXT with a carnauba, so I see no point in adding the booster wax. It seems to defeat the purpose of what I'm doing. In the end isn't it just another spray wax?

"Calling all BF users calling all BF users".....Is there a new formula or something? OR...

Are they saying its ok, implying an additional coat is strictly for coverage. My experience is there is a cure time with BF, even with UPP, but I guess you cant argue with the label.....

It was in their FAQ section in the instructional pamphlet that came with it. From what I read, it's not for even coverage purposes. You can just keep piling it on.

We are talking about BF II, right?

This is what the booklet says:

"Q. How long should I wait between products and between coats?"

"Blackfire products start bonding immediately upon application. The only wait time required is the time it takes for the haze to dry so it can be buffed off. If you want to experiment with applying multible coats of a product, use Blackfire All Finish Paint Protection. Two coats of Paint Protection will achieve a "wetter" gloss than two coats of Gloss Enhancing Polish."

I understand your confusion. I'm somewhat in the dark myself. All other polymer sealants require a cure time. How is BF any different?

It does look real nice. It's raining right now, so I haven't had a chance to take my car outside for a good look. I'll probably leave it alone for now until two or three weeks later when I'll wash it. I think at that point I'll top it with S100 and see if I like that or not.:)

I remember receiving directions with the new formula of Blackfire that the longer you alow it to set the better and not to do a second coat immediately following the first. From experience this would seem correct.

The most incredible finish I have ever attained was applying 1 coat Klasse AIO, followed by one coat BF Polish, followed by one coat BF Protectant. After 24 hours I applied 1 coat P21s, waited 12 hours, applied another, waited 24 hours and finally applied 1 coat Pinnacle Soverign. It's a black Dodge Dakota and people I didn't even know were asking me what I used to make the truck so unbelievable looking. Those days are over. I just bought some TOL Black Wax and after 1 coat it looks good. I'm gonna put one more on tomorrow. I'm getting lazy!

blackfire doesn't need anything on top of it :(

Hmmm .... Going down the freeway a little faster than the law allowed for 20 or so miles, rainwater was clinging to my BF'd paint. Maybe I did something wrong, But I never had a sealant do that before. I personally like Trade secret as a topper over BF.;)
