Top Selling minivan

That's pretty true but misses the idea that you can see with your own eyes what the window sticker says. You *can't* see how much of a discount is available. Many (if not most) buyers will pay full or close to price. They end up feeling robbed in the end. I'm not trying to be argumentative so please don't take it that way. Based on the track record of the Chrysler vans they have something to prove to me. After driving the new one I still appreciate my 2000 Odyssey and it simply doesn't hold a candle to the newest Odyssey and it's a 3-4 year old design that will be all new again in a year or so.

as others have stated, i'll take the honda as well... :up

Yep.....

Resale values don't lie......

You're absolutely right!

Here some data I pulled from my NADA book:

2005 Odyssey

Touring model:

MSRP - $38,295

Used Retail - $27,700

Loss in value - $10,595

LX model:

MSRP - $24,995

Used Retail - $19,450

Loss in value - $5545

2005 Town & Country

Limited model:

MSRP - $35,070

Used Retail - $20,450

Loss in value - $$14,620

LX model:

MSRP - $24,770

Used Retail - $14,000

Loss in value - $10,770

As you can see, Honda held it's value much better after ~ 2 years and would be a better investment if purchased new.

I understand these numbers, but like I said, they only represent the MSRP and not what customers actually pay. While they may have similar MSRP's, it is my understanding that Chryslers (specifically the G.C and T&C) sell for much less while others like the Honda sell closer to sticker.

BTW, I think it also has to do with the perceived value of a brand. Look at Mercedes Benz - they aren't exactly the most reliable cars in the world but they command crazy prices in the used market.

my $.02

Where are the numbers that show what *every* customer actually paid? As I said before, *most* people are *not* going to get the big discounts.

Usually the safer vehicles are cheaper to insure, so I'd take a guess and say no.

I don't know. My Subaru was one of the safest cars on the road with standard awd, built in roll bar and so on and the insurance was the same as a Cadillac. A lot of other factors are taken into consideration like how often the cars get stolen, where you live and work, and so on.

Buying a Mercedes new has got to be one of the worst car investments! Take the S-class for example. Rated as one the the worst reliable vehicles produced and the worst for resale value. Leasing one is the only way to go. I have a hard time perceiving them as value? Why is one of the most expensive vehicles (perceived as the best) on the road tanking in value so bad?

2006 S600

MSRP - $127,950

Used retail - $72,050

Loss in value = $55,900 - (over 55% in 1.5 years)

2006 S500

MSRP - $86,050

Used retail - $54,950

Loss in value - $31,100 (64%)

God point Bob. You're right, there alot of variables that go into how insurance is calculated. I wish I knew exactly how it worked. And, each insurance company's rating system is different from one another too. :nixweiss

It's also cheaper to insure a 05 Z-06 than it is my 05 Town & Country? Go figure?

The wife and I have had: 1996 Quest (Nissan) 1999 Quest, 2000 Odyssey, 2003 Toyota Sienna, 2005 Sienna and recently traded for a 2007 Odyssey, I have to say the Honda is the best all-round van and the 07 with 3.5 v-6 is great.

I had a '95 Quest and only kept it 10 months. Worse gas mileage of anything I've had. Honda van's have had 3.5l V6's since '99. They have been given a number of upgrades over the years however.

Here in my town. Dodge Caravans IMO are the most annoying vans/cars on the road. They never pay attention, and they are always doing something stupid, and I almost been hit by them several times because they can't see me. Now... when I'm in the country side in town at night... they always flash their highbeams at me... I guess they don't know the later model cars have HID's as standard headlights... They piss me off, especially when they have those ugly bumper stickers, or their door panels all bent up.

At least 4 out of 10 cars are dodge caravans!!

With the new ones out... it's going to be more distracting to the drivers with the 2 tv's at rear passengers. They sell more because they are cheap.

I AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS!! Hate them, I have a neighbor that drives one and goes 10mph before we get out of the subdivision, and I have a co worker that drives all crazy just to get to work.. I HATE EM ALL!!! Even the new commercials!

Sorry for the vent...............
