Top Secret QD --> Your Home Made QD

I have read lots, and searched even more.

What are forum members using as their quick detailer. With the summer season here and the focus to keep ride looking wet I thought this would be a great time to share.

Please list what you use and how you created it. Dont forgot to add if its a waterless wash or more of a duster/in between washes kind of thing. If you dont have a special mix, then just list what you use.

Additionally, maybe provide a brief comparison to other common products so that we can get an idea of the final results. Pics always come in handy here.....dont be shy.

Mods - I would like to get a sticky on this as I am sure that other members will find it useful to create their own special 'MIX'.

I use a pretty rich mixture of DP Waterless Wash with water. I mostly just use it for clay lube, and removing dust in between polishing steps and such. I have also used it the morning after a wash so I could throw on another coat of wax and it has worked pretty well for me. The smell leaves something to be desired though.

I use AIO topped with either SG or Jeff's Jett for my silver Honda. My QDs are two separate entities - one for light cleaning, for which I use PoorBoys SW, and one is for rejuvenating the sealant and adding protection and gloss.

Recently, I tried Jett for the first time and I am now using Spray and Gloss since it is in the same family. So far so good. When I had Klasse SG as my lsp, I used a variety of QDs that did the job of adding gloss after a wash (these "enhaced" QDs are always applied over a very clean surface, unlike most QDs). They included Wolfgang's Spritz, Menzerna's HGAS and a home brew, among a few others (a recent one being FK425 which I found to be very good, but not great like the others mentioned).

The home brew was 3 parts distilled water to 1 part Klasse SG. At first I used a mister bottle (like a perfume dispensor), then, I tried a refillable, rechargeable aerosol can. Both worked well and the home brew was as good as the Wolfgang and nearly as good as the Menzerna - at a much cheaper price. Jury is still out on PoorBoys S&G but it seems to have very good potential.

Got AJ and Collinite on my car and have tried heaps of diff QD combo's but none of them compare to Prima Slick, especially when you use it with a WW towel to dry the car.

Ultra slick.

I was thinking about ( I havent tried yet ) Doing a 50/50 mix of Optimum Carwax spray and FK425. Think I might try that combo after my next car wash.

What is IPA and do you fill up with distilled water until the 500ml mark then ?

IPA is isopropyl alcohol. I wanted a QD with a little cleaning power for the jambs and it works very good.

Yep, just fill it up.

10 ml SG + 9 ml Sonax Xtreme1 Liquid Carnauba + 1 ml IPA in a 500 ml bottle. This is close to the typical 95-95% water approach.

Kösönöm ! for the formula but I am reluctant with the IPA... Would it not remove whatever wax etc ?? I mean wouldn' t it be dangerous in the long run?? An answer kerem :)

Many QD's you are probably using now contain some amount of alcohol. It aids in cleaning and adds evaporative qualities to the QD so it is easier to buff dry.

When two closely related cultures meet...! :D

Yep, kérem-köszönöm... The only Turkish I know is from the Turbo chewing gum:

- Beygir gücü (as horsepower)

- Azami sürat (as Vmax)

Thankfully, these two expressions saved me a semester of learning philosophy. I wanted to make a good joke and I told the teacher that I want to make a lecture about the two most prominent personalities of the ancient Turkey; Beygir Gücü & Azami Sürat. (The paper of the Turbo gum had little pics of cars with the most basic data, which consisted the horsepower and the Vmax figures.) She nodded, saying that she remembered them exactly from the Historic Reader's Book. Then I showed her the little paper from the chewing gum... She turned burgundy as an overcooked spiny lobster and said that I don't have to come to her lectures any more and I'll get the previous year's grade if I wanted...
