Top Gear in the US

I had just found Top Gear on the Discovery Channel before it ended its run. I heard that Discovery Chanel was going to have in back some time in December. Have any of you guys heard anything about this? I'm not sure where to find an answer, so I thought I'd ask here. Thanks.

I hated it on discovery...I was a watered down version and not half and funny or cool as the UK verison...Ill stick to DLing it...

Yeah, I know a few people on xceedspeed.com where liking the uk version better.

Well, althugh most people that have watched the UK version tend to not like the US version as much, still... as the saying goes.. "it's all we gots!" So lets' show some love for the US version no matter how watered down people think it is. All we are really missing is the "famous person in a plain car" thing or whatever its called. I usually FFWD through that anyhow. Some of the US bashing is toned down, but otherwise it's a reasonable rendition of the original. Still tops anything Speed has put out in years!

Anyhow.. I contacted the Discovery Channel in NOvember ans asked when it was coming back, they said to look for it in December. I just ran my TIVO to the end of December and didnt' see it on any day or night. Might be time to contact them again and see what the holdup is.

I would have to agree that the UK version is much better. I don't like how they creat one US episode out of several UK episodes.

I'll take what I can get, however, as I enjoyed most of what I saw on the Discovery Channel.

Here's to hoping they bring it back soon.

Its not that I hate the American version, more that the show IS so much better then what they show.. I mean I watch Car and Driver now and the way its produced is like a High School AV project, The real Top Gear gives REAL opinions and dosent water the hate or the praise for a car down...It is told like it is. Also Top Gear's Cinematography makes C&D'd look liek childs play, The host is a square that talks like he is speaking to a bunch of elementary kids...its just a joke that here in america we have to be so careful not to hurt someones feelings that what we make is so bland and dull...DC just cuts all the commentary out at the end of each review, and thats often the best part of it all, its like oh we dont want u to get bored cause people are talking so we'll back to the action...who cares, we need details on your over all opinions and the other hosts opinions about the car....GOD!!!!ok im done venting.... :lol

I think Spielberg's kids shoot this show, it's done so brilliantly. If you head over to http://www.finalgear.com/ you can get all the episodes of both Top Gear and 5th Gear, which isn't quite as good as TG but still far superior to anything put together over here. Of course, a good broadband connection is a must and you have to be familiar with downloading BitTorrent files, but the quality is great (full screen viewing!!!) and you can get the episodes next day! I am happy to say that I am fully up to date with both programs.

Oh, on a related "great car show" note, the "Victory by Design" series is back starting tomorrow night (12.19.2005) on Speed with the history of Lotus. You can learn more about this series at http://www.victorybydesign.com/ Great stuff this!

Per BerserkerCatSplat over at FinalGear.com.

BBC is creating a new Top Gear America show (filmed in the States with different presenters), they've taped the pilot episode and we're waiting to see how it goes over with the test audience. They even flew the Stig over to do some track laps! If all goes as planned, North America could get its own Top Gear series very soon.

Having seen the 'real' TG, I wonder if this will work.
