Tool Chest

I am just putting this out there:

I just bought a new 8 draw tool chest from Sears. I have been trying to organize my tools and was looking for some hints on the best way to sort them.

Does anyone label the outside of the draws? So far I have found myself looking through five draws just to find a screwdriver.

Thanks

I think you just have to put them where you feel comfortable and after a bunch of repetitions of opening and closing you will remember where they are...it's no different than moving to a new house and trying to find something ;)

I just bought a 22 drawer 40 in Craftsman chest/cabinet combo last month. I have my most often used tools in the easy to reach drawers. Wrenches are in two drawers, one for metric and one for standard. Sockets are in one drawer and will move once I get my socket racks. I have the rest broken up by tool group (hammers, files/drill bits, nut drivers/driver bits, pliers, electrical, etc. I haven't labeled the drawers and don't plan on it. I'll figure out where everything is soon enough.

I have been looking at portable garage storage of late and it was my intention to purchase magnetic label for the drawers once I decide on a tool box. I am old and I am lazy so I most likely will need the labels to find things since I most l ikely won't be using it enough to get used to finding the screw driver drawer the first time.

I have a double bank 13 drawer snap on box for a little over 2 years now. I never bought the labels. I could tell you were every thing goes and if any thing is missing by just a glance. The only thing I really bought organization wise was a bunch of socket rails and the magnetic ones also. Most snap on tools that you buy come with some type of tray in them. Most of us here don't really need snap on tools so I know that is really out of the question. The only reason that I have them is I use to work at a body shop for 5 years. Any ?'s just ask
