Todays Detail vs. 1957 Chevy 2-Door

Brandon nice job.

I am kind of curious at your statement, removing any more clear off this one . Would you say the car had its original paint work? If so FYI they did not have base coat clear coat technology in the 50’s, it would have been a single stage paint process.

All the best.

Yeah, in the first post, I mentioned it had been repainted with a basecoat/clearcoat system 4-5 years ago.

Hey B,

Just to be clear this is what you said in your 1st post:

This is my best friends uncles pride and joy. A 1957 Chevy Bel-Air, just restored 5years ago.

As you can plainly see you did not point out it had been repainted. Restored can mean lots of different things. The car would be much more valuable if the original paint had either been restored to its' original condition or @ minimum it was repainted in a single stage process.

Now knowing that a base coat clear coat process was used, you were correct to be careful. Generally when a repaint is done the base coat film and the clear coat film are substantially thinner than in factory applications.

Good job.

WOW! :bolt

Brandon might have spelled something wrong also......better go check!:spit:

Brandon1 - I agree about the rims....not so great. The gold does give it a kind of cheaper look aslo...but to each his own!! The old school part of me would love to see some old Crager SS's on there!!

cant please everyone I guess. I meant to say base/clear, but my bad for not.

Cragers would look good, specially in a 20" size, I may have to go change my pants after thinking about what that would look like.

B, I'm sorry if I offended you. You did a great job on the car. Sometimes I let my detail oriented personality get the best of me. I was trying to clarify your statement to make sure of what you were doing, thats all.

No prob dude, just seems like an influx of asses lately and I am getting sick and tired of it so any cross comment really pulls my hair.

Cragers! Now that takes me back, first car - 1972 Z-28 with Crager SS wheels, 15" on the back with L60's and 14" on the front with G70's. Damn thing didn't have power steering and with air shocks it rode like hell! But, I know I know, shoulda kept it cause they only made 2575 of them that year and it was the last LT1 350. Do they still make Cragers?? Oh and great job as usual Brandon, you need to drop by the house some Sat morning and teach this old dog some advanced techniques.
