To Scent or Not To Scent?

Do any of you use scents--In particular New Car or New Car leather. Do they last a long time? Is water based or oil based better? Do you know where I can get them? Thanks

I like Fabreeze, pick it up at Walmart or any place like that. They have one for auto that resembles "new car". I use mine almost every day.

I've also used Febreeze, but the regular one. I find that Febreeze doesn't last too long.

I may try cleaning the carpets to freshen up the car.

Honestly, if you don't mind having to redo the spray every couple of weeks Febreeze is a great way to go. There is nothing worse than an overly "scented" car... Most air fresherners are overpowering.

Why yes I do. In fact I just built this page this morning:

Four Star Automotive Air Fresheners

Some of them are very sweet. Air fresheners are very subjective and should be used with caution. Some customers love them and some cannot stand them.

Ahh that was what i was looking for, I bet Four Star Leather Air Freshener is the most popular one :)

Sounds funny but the PowerHouse Foam Carpet Deodorizer for pet odors from the Dollar Tree has one of the cleanest and nose friendly smells and lasts a while without draining your pocket. Also Bissell makes a good carpet deodorizer that smells fresh and clean and lasts a long time. I sprayed the Bissell in my truck when I ran out of Febreeze a month ago and it still smells fresh. Both have that fresh clean smell like Febreeze and doesn't cost as much. Bissell I got from the supermarket. GL

I use oil based fragrances, I carry 5 flavours. My most popular are New Car and Strawberry. I ask the client which (if any) fragrance they would like in their vehicle and let them sample them if they would like. Helps bond the client to your work and their car. I spray the most around the recirc intake for the aircon and run it for 20-30seconds. These fragrances last say 2weeks in a heavily used car. Fragrances aren't dear. Remember to spray only on the floors/carpets/mats, oil on clothes sux.

I have a orange one that I use once in a while. I've found that PB NL to be a great one. I spray in the air vents and that seems to do the job!

:wait Do you find the oil based scents on the carpets attract more dirt or leave a stain in any way? I would be worried that could happen.

I just got the 4 star stuff today. Its great I sprayed two sprays in my car which is a SUV and is big inside and has plenty of carpet the smell was great and you could really smell it.

The fragrance oils don't stain or get grimey etc because the products are a dash of oil emulsified(?) in water, so I'm told. The actual 'oil' to me appears similar to what you'd find in a scented oil burner - the kinds all our ladies waste our hard earned dosh on!

Do you spray on the mats/carpets or under the seats? I would worry about the oils attracting more dirt to high traffice areas..

I use a foam spray and also give the customer a little Magic tree air freshener to hang from the mirror after the scent of the foam goes away. I only give out trees on detail packages, not car washes. The scent of the trees seems to last the longest.

Hanging fragrance trees and nudie chicks are neat but in Oz its illegal to hang crap from your rearview mirror. Hanging from window handles isn't always practical especially with electric windows. Most of these products recommend leaving the tree etc in it's plastic wrapper, pealing back the plastic every week and you can sit it in the door pouch without staining the trim etc.

With the fragrance oil types I apply them more to the sides of the footwell than the floor carpet, not onto the floormats - as mentioned this can potentially be messy.
