To remove light swirl marks

I have very light swirl marks on my car and was wondering which combo to use with my porter cable.

#1 SSR2.5 with a cutting pad then ssr1 with a polishing pad followed by VM + EX-P

#2 SSR2.5 with a polishing pad then VM + EXP

#3 SSR1 with a cutting pad then VM + EXP

or something else?

rule of thumb is to go w/ the least aggresive method first . So how about SSR1 w/ polishing pad on 5k to start. Check it out and see if you need more. You probably will have to on the horizontal pieces. Fenders , hood , roof and trunk ussually get most of the swirls . I've used 2.5 w/ cutting pad many a time and its a great product to work with and great results. Soo good that i've gone right to a LSP.

I'd go with option # 2:D

Jay, we can use my garage and mess around with a bunch of stuff, but my favorite attack at most swirls is SSR2.5 + polishing pad. Work it in real good, and you don't need to follow up with a finer polish.

ya that would be good, my problem was when I tried to deal with the swirls the first time i couldnt see them in the carport without direct sunlight. So I was blindly polshing away.

your garage + Halogen lamp = success

Yeah....I feel bad, he's had so many transmission issues....seems like the manufacturer of his transmission can't do anything right. That, or the shop owners are on crack.....or both.

Actually the car comes home 1st thing wednesday morning. 3 transmissions, 6 Torque converters and 4 and 1/2 months later, this has been nearly the worst experience I have ever had with a company. Im glad its all over and I am looking forward to doing a fresh full service detail and finishing off with the new EX-P+ thats on the way here now. And I got the new wheel sealant too, time for a fair test this time around :)

I am getting ready for my first adventure with my pc buffer. I 've use those 30-50 dollar orbitals from sears and they were alright. But after finding this site I have this desire to get an even better shine on the cars. I invested in a pc, backing plate, yellow, white and black pads, cleaning tool for pads. I am now ready to get some ssr1 thru 2.5 to start. Then some Natty wax and some exp. I will start with the ssr1 and see how that works. If more is needed I will move on.

steps... ?
SSR----
Exp
Wax...
What am I missing here.... Note this is after I have washed and clayed the car.

sounds like you are on the right track...

if you can see the swirls in all lighting, then start with SSR2.5 on a polishing pad...prime the pad with product not water, making a circle on the pad and then rubbing it into the pad. Then make another small circle around the pad , tap it to the car , start the pc on the car at a low speed and spread over area to be worked. Then turn it up to abot 5-5.5 and work it until it just about dissappears.
Wipe off and check what you have ...repeat if needed. The change pads and use the SSR1 the same way.(I prefer SSR1 at speeds of 4-5). and continue until you are happy:)

Hey, just thought I would update you guys since Jay is too lazy. His Trans Am is gone....he sold it. HOPEFULLY he'll be picking up a black Z06 today. :bigups
