To Edge or not?

I'm new to autopia and have some questions. I have a PC and need new pads. Was wondering if switching to the edge system is worth it or just get new LC or Sonus pads. Like using the 4" on the PC and thinking the 6" Edge pads maybe to much for the PC.

IMO 6" Edge is too much.

I would go with a 3.5" BP 4" and 5" pads. I like 5" Danase CCS. 4" sonus or if you want 4" CCS at AG.

I don't have an Edge adaptor for my PC, so I have no idea how well their pads work with DA's, but I sure like both the six inch foam and six inch Edge 2K pads on the rotary.

As the other guys have said, the four inch cyclo pads are the ones to get. You'll get much more correction power with the smaller pads on the PC.

I agree but only for the rotary as E3K does not work on PC, UDM, Cyclo, Makita B06040, or Flex conversion.

Not even with a PC-to-rotary adapter? I was really thinking of doing this for my PC since I already have the 3k adapter for my Metabo.

I just simply like the 3k adapter better but still have the issue of finding a vendor that will send me the correct pads for the 3k adapter. :bawling:

Seems that the price is about equal give or take a couple of bucks. the 4" cyclo pads can be used on either side as opposed to buying two 4" pads which is about the same price as one cyclo pad. Any advantages going with a 3.5" bp and using 4" or 5" pads compared to using the edge and cyclo 4" pads?

This would only be wise loc-tited in.

And edgepadsonline.com has all the 3k 'ready' pads you could ever want.

For scratches even try the 3.5inch system one pad.

Cutting wool on one side and finishing foam on the other. The wool cuts significantly stronger than the yellow 4inch foam which is great for removing scratches on hard clears. The soft finishing foam side is great for getting into tight areas.

I'd just stick with the 6inch pads for general correction/polishing.

Not to hijack but i just purchased a meg's W66 backing plate for a rotary dewalt 849 is that large enough to use with the 6 1/2 pads or should i go to a 6 1/2 plate , it just looks so small on the rotary

I don't recommend edge 2K for PC/ROB. The pads are too heavy and the oscillating/RO movement terrorizes the adapter.

Rotary, their great.

I think that the W66 is meant for pads 6.5" and larger.

The W66 is a 5.75" BP so it will work fine with your 6.5" pads.

Rotary, their great.

I have used them on my pc for a couple of years with no issues,Love them on my rotary and now my Flex !!! great system !!! But like I tell anyone its all personal preference .I also have complete sets of standard backing plates and LC pads. I just really enjoyed the flexability of not having to change backing plates to go to different size pads.

I had terrible luck with the edge system on a porter cable. The adapter was always failing, the ball in the end of it fell out on one of them. And the pads really seemed too dense in the medium size
